Reward card fraud

my rewards cards wiped out from someone impersonating calling from ATT reward center and surprisingly they had all my information including address, phone number, reward card number and expiration date… except CVV number..
ATT customer service very poor, wasted my 2-3 hours and no solution.

Hard lesson to learn - I’m glad it wasn’t with my debit or credit card - and technically this wasn’t money I “earned” but was a bonus. I will never respond to any callers now - instead hanging up and calling the corporate number. These scammers have way too much information - makes me wonder why they needed to call us at all.

I have someone who has called me twice (yesterday and today) from 1-800-288-1754 asking me to give them my rewards card number information to "verify" so that the cards will not be cancelled.

I know this is complete (Edited per community guidelines) and I do not appreciate that they have my information. I have refused to give them any reward card numbers.

they wanted to combine the two cards into one.

Why? I would seriously question the reason why there's a need to combine even if they have all my personal info. You just can't freely give information to anyone who calls you. No, companies should not be reissuing funds that is stolen regardless of who steals it. They should conduct investigations to make sure it isn't their own employees.

I just happened to me. I recently signup with AT&T. The scammer knows exactly when I will be getting my reward cards and ask me to verify as soon as I receive them. I don't know how he got my phone number or my email address. He said he doesn't need the first 8 digits only to verified the last 8 of my card then asked me for the CCV. As soon as I read the CCV to him, I realized something's wrong. I quickly turned on my laptop and tried to claim my $200 reward card with an Amazon gift card to no avail.

I spent 20 minutes with AT&T chat. He questions why I gave out my CCV. I told him, I have received personal calls from AT&T Tech before and after installation. I even received a text message with code to claim my reward. Why would I suspect someone claiming from AT&T to verify that I have receive the reward cards? I asked would it be possible if someone from AT&T is working along with the scammer. Only then, he said he completely understand my concerns and gave me the reward center number to contact.

The reward center fraud specialist quickly froze my card after verying my name, address, and security pin. Deja vu all over again :(
She said the charge was authorized but still pending. She asked me to call back after 5 business days to find out for certain if the freeze was successful. She directed to speak to AT&T support again regarding the breach or how my personal info got out but I declined.

I hope AT&T will start investigating how personal info for new customers got out. 5 stars to reward card fraud center.

Same incident happened to me as well. The scammer had my ATT Account info and knew exactly how mach reward money I received. It seemed so legit. I called the reward center, global fraud center but they kept shuffling between them saying the other department will help out. It has been outrageous. I need to know if there is way to secure and change account information at least because this is scary and can lead to identity theft.

same thing just happened to me tonight :( I never fall for anything like this. I thought the call was weird for sure, but they had so much info on me (name, phone, email, details about cards, etc.) that I figured it couldn't possibly be a scam. Yes, it a tad dumb of all of us to fall for this, but I think AT&T should certainly be partially or wholly responsible for customers' personal information being leaked or hacked. If this is a true data breach, this would be a reportable event and big national news.  it wasn't like this was a Nigerian prince sending us an email.

Same happened to me. After talking with them I quickly activated both of my cards and set a pin. Thinking that if it was a scam they wouldn't be able to use it with a pin set. Next day the money was still there. That was one day last week. Went to use one card this morning and both now have a zero balance. I have only spoke with the card company but will call the reward customer service when they open. So disappointed...we were planning on using this extra money on our kids Christmas. Not happy someone had SO much of my personal information tho. That's very scary!

Either they've been hacked (most likely) or it's an employee. I got a text and call from the scammer(s). These guys had my phone #, address, at&t account #, date my service started, date cards were mailed out. I didn't give them any info and went ahead and activated the cards to be safe. Cards were wiped out (virtual card too) within 48hrs of activating. At this point I assume the hustle is to get us to activate the cards.

This just happened to me as well. I can't believe how this guy, Shawn Love, supposedly an AT&T representative, phone# 2253195603, swindled me out of my $150 gift card. He was so pleading.

Here is the text he sent me: "Hey this is Shawn Love, I am texting from AT&T. Basically we just recently sent you 4 reward cards of $200+200+150+50 so we just want to confirm  you that you have received them. AT&T  services. Thank you".

Then, he asked to call me. He knew when the card was put in the mail, when it is supposed to arrive, and my information. So this has to be a "Gift Card" scam that AT&T is provoking.  You are offering gift cards just to gain customers, and then you turn around and take your money back. How do you sue them?

By the way, I called AT&T customer service for help, but they first hung up on me while transferring be to thief line. When I called back, they waited the right amount of time to say its to late to do anything, the money has already been taken from your card.
