My Internet cuts off every night at 1am while playing a video game

While I play a PC game before 1am hits, my internet works just fine, but then every night when 1am hits, my internet cuts off for like 30 Seconds to 1 minute and then comes back on, then cuts off again when I try to get back on a PC game. This condition repeats everytime i try to get back on a game when 1am hits but then when i get off of my PC game, this condition stops and my internet no longer cuts off. This a very frustrating issue that i somehow cannot get fixed. I tried restarting my gateway multiple times and this did not fix my issue. I would like this issues resolved.

Hi @Nexus232,

We understand the importance of active, stable and high speed internet connection all the time. We hear you, and we're happy to assist you.

Interment drops can be caused by a few things. Some of those are caused by how your equipment is located and plugged into.

First, if your modem is plugged into a surge protector. Plug it directly into a wall outlet. Some surge protectors and power strips are not rated for electronics.

Second, if your modem is on the ground, move it from a table to a shelf. The reason, static electricity can build up and cause resets. Ever rub your socks on the carpet and shock someone? That is close to what is happening to the modem. This along with surge protectors can cause the modem to completely fail.

Try downloading the Smart Home Manager app, which gives you the ability to prioritize your devices. You can also run a speed test with the Smart Home Manager to determine if the latency is within the acceptable range.

We recommend optimizing your internet connection by doing the following:

  • Reboot devices regularly to clear system errors.
  • Exit streaming apps after watching videos or listening to music.
  • Set auto-updates on apps, gaming consoles, and PCs to run when your network isn’t busy.

We also recommend optimizing your router. You can choose the drop-down menu to select your specific model for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

We have an article here in the forums that covers high ping and latency in greater detail. There's also a traceroute example that you can use to better understand your results. We also have an article in forums that covers about gaming trouble and high ping which can help you learn why you are having trouble with your game and some things you can do that may help .

If the above does not help, We recommend using our Troubleshoot & Resolve app. Not only can it notify you of an outage, but it can also run tests and even dispatch a tech. It is important to follow all the prompts for the best experience.

We hope these steps help and feel free to reach back out if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thanks for contacting us on AT&T Community Forums.

None of these things helped. My router is on a shelf. Everytime this condition happens at 1am and doesn’t stop until i get off my gaming PC, I have my PC connected to my WIFI through my Wireless TV Receiver by a ethernet cable connecting from my Wireless TV Receiver directly to my PC. This Wireless TV Receiver is connected with my Surge Protector. This is how i see my WiFi Bars go up and down, and everytime it hits 1am the bars go from 4 green bars to 1 red bar. When this happened i checked my router for any changes for the lights on the router and my wireless light seems to be flicker green, which is normal, but then when i check my wifi bars on my Wireless TV Receiver, its still at 1 red bar. then i turns to 4 bars but then when i start up a game. it shuts off and goes down to one red bar, this repeats over and over again. Could this be an internet issue or something wrong with my wireless tv receiver? I have also tried to restart the wireless TV receiver but this did not help

Consider finding a better way to connect your PC to gateway.   I’m fairly certain using a Uverse TV settop box in that way is not a supported configuration.
