Can't host PS3 games or chat sessions online. Please help.

Not sure what topic this really goes under, but since about the middle of September, my PS3 consoles stopped allowing me to play certain games online. Specifically, I can't host game sessions. I can join other player's game sessions, I can sign into the PlayStation Network, browse the internet on the PS3, watch YouTube, etc., but I can't host co-op game sessions. I can't even host chat sessions on the PS3. It's been getting frustrating to have to tell my online friends that I can't invite them and that they have to invite me since I'm having internet problems. Every time I try hosting a game or a chat session, it takes forever to create the session and then comes back with the message "Failed to create session" or an error code/message (8002231D) "Connection to the server timed out" depending on the game. This happens with all of my Resident Evil games that have online co-op, as well as Soul Calibur V.

I have been with AT&T Uverse for several years using a wireless connection to play online games and I've never had an intermittent issue like this before. Again, this just happened abruptly around the middle of last month and it has remained this way ever since. I have a laptop that connects to the WiFi just fine.

One thing I know of is that I visited a friend's home and tested out hosting a co-op session from their ISP (They have Xfinity Comcast) and it worked perfectly!

I don't know what's been causing it, so I performed many troubleshooting steps in hopes of correcting the problem and nothing has worked.

I've contacted Sony PlayStation support about it, and after troubleshooting with them, they resolved that it was my ISP

I attempted troubleshooting with Capcom support which they also resolved was my ISP

I have tried setting up a static IP address or putting it into a DMZ.

I have attempted port forwarding.

I tried making configuration changes to the WiFi in the router via other forum posts

I have tried connecting my PS3 directly to the modem to rule out wireless interference

I have rebooted my modem.

I have even factory reset it.

I have contacted At&T technical support 3 times last month and they couldn't seem to help me. They once transferred me over to ConnecTech who only wanted me to pay them to get this issue resolved.

I tried AT&T support chat again just yesterday and they said they have detected an issue in the line, going on to say that it is related to the network and that they would send out a service technician to fix it. The technician was supposed to arrive between 4PM and 8PM, it is now going on 9:20 PM and no one has been here.

Is it possible that a line issue can simply prevent hosting online co-op sessions? Like I said, I can join other player's games, I can connect to the internet, use the YouTube XL, browse the internet and connect to the PlayStation Network just fine. I just can't host sessions. This is very annoying and I'm getting exhausted troubleshooting this every weekend I have off. It'd just be nice to enjoy my days off being able to play online.

It is my understanding that there's experts on this board that can possibly help with this problem, or can point me in the right direction for troubleshooting so I can contact AT&T support again.

Once more, I have AT&T Uverse, I have a NVG589 Arris Modem/Router, and I have two PS3 consoles that both can't host co-op game sessions online. I don't have TV or phone services through AT&T.

@Rated185 AT&T did something to the server in my area I believe I am a test case for their fix, since it worked for me I am sure they will start to apply it to all the other servers they use. I will update you all when I find out more from @DavidCS as to what they did and if they are going to be able to resolve the issue for everyone affected.

@eekay182 @Clockwork1990 Not sure it would be just a fix for the game I play as it also fixed the Text Chat on the console issue hope it is not just a fix for my game alone, but for all the games affected.

I sm from Michigan and have at&t u-versre with a modem model 5268ACFXN. I have 4 ps3 consoles that I have been having this problem on since September also. I also own a ps4, x box one and x box one x. No problems on these consoles. But on our FOUR PS3S we cannot host games on Minecraft or Terraria or make a chat room but all other games we own we can host, like all gta's and all Saints row games. I have also been in contact with at&t several times. Had my modem changed. Had my ports opened (BTW ports only matter if your connected via Ethernet cord not wireless, I was told that directly from an at&t support person) which is stupid because only 1 out of my 4 ps3s is connected via Ethernet cord, was told I had to buy extra IPS did not work. I also went from a nat 2 to a nat 1 and had at&t drop all firewalls on my modem. Nothing. I talked with psn and had all our accounts looked at, perfectly fine and our speeds checked, again perfectly fine.  I have been on a Mojang site with probably 50 other people having this problem and they all have at&t u-verse. We all thought it was Minecraft servers but Mojang informed us that at&t said it was them. So I am coming here in the hopes that the more people we get maybe at&t will actually do something about this instead of telling us its on our end. I was told by at&t, psn and Mojang that I have tried everything possible on my end SO THAT MEANS THE PROBLEM LIES WITH YOU AT&T.

A lot has taken place here since I've been away. A lot, indeed...

@brauski14that's certainly good news that they were able to get the issue resolved for you!

Like all the rest, however, I'm still left in the dark with this. After reading all of the latest posts, I tried to host a text chat. Nothing for me yet, unfortunately.

I feel for everyone who is still experiencing this issue, but if AT&T begins to resolve it for everyone on this thread, I would kindly ask you all to update with a new post explaining this clearly as @brauski14 has done so. I shall do the same if I am granted the ability to host games again. That goes for anyone new joining this thread as well. In this way, I can accept a solution.

For now, the little patience I have is surprising to me as I am already prepared to drop AT&T in another week or so. It has become extremely annoying that I still can't host co-op sessions, yet I've still be waiting and hoping for a resolution soon.

That's what bites for me I am stuck for another year in my contract. I used to have Comcast. But as soon as my contract is up I WILL NEVER BE A AT&T COSTUMER AGAIN. The support staff I have spoken with many times on the phone always tell me different things each time I call of how its on my end. The technicians are the only nice ones. When they come out,and I had 3, they are kind and nice and they have all said they don't know why the support sent them out because it will not fix my problem. The first came to check my lines. They were fine. The next came to check my modem it was fine but he gave me a new one anyways and the third came to install static IP addresses that at&t support said I needed to fix my problem. So I paid an extra $30 for the static IP plan and as soon as the tech got here before he even started he said it won't work. And it didn't. The funny thing about all of this is the day after this happened with not being able to host games I called at&t support  and they told me that they just did an update to the whole at&t internet firewall to make it safer. Kinda weird that your update did this at&t but you say it's on our end. I am sooooo fed up with all the lies. Just fix it.

@BabyDahl83 I was a test case for the issue we all are having and the issue was resolved on the  server used in my area of central California. I posted on the site you gave the link to about the fix,but when I posted it and it uses my given name I deleted it, maybe you can go to the site, and inform the members about the new update.

@RD_S666  I have heard from AT&T and since the fix worked for my area, they are going to start updating the other servers used by their system. I do hope they can do this quickly, and get you all back to being able to enjoy your gaming experience again. Have some patience I do know it has been to long to suffer this issue but now there is a fix that glimmer of hope has become a light at the end of the tunnel.

Wow it's now 10 pages long LOL

@brauski14 - thanks for the update on everything. I have recently private messaged @DavidCS with my information so they can hopefully test/update the servers in my area - Central Ohio.

If anyone else gets an update from AT&T, please keep continue to keep this thread update with any and all progress. Fingers crossed that this will get resolved for everyone!

@brauski14  It's a glimmer of hope for sure! Thanks for the update! I wonder if someone from AT&T would be kind enough to get on this thread once they start applying these fixes to let everyone know when we should start testing our PS3 systems. Ten pages, indeed. It proves that AT&T has taken an extraordinarily long amount of time to get this fixed. Makes me wonder, also, if this will happen again in the future...

Hi,

Thank you to @brauski14 for working with us on this issue. I am no longer taking any private messages on this issue, but I think with his help, we were able to determine the issue. We are working on a plan to get this implemented across our network, and this should resolve the issue for everyone. Please allow us some time to get this done, as it is not an easy task.

Awesome, thank you @DavidCS / @ATTHelpForums! Any chance you guys would be able to provide us with a timeline of the rollouts to each region? Also, please let us know when you need each of us to test the changes to our regions. Super happy this is moving in the right direction!
