Currently with unlimited data plan and thinking of tethering to new ipad

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone knew how much it would cost to add teathering capability to my iphone for an ipad? I currently have an unlimited data plan and wanted to tether to my ipad. Will I be forced to give up my unlimited data to do this?

Thanks!

according to the topic below, i do not believe this is available anymore. The last time i checked, you had to pay around $11.00 extra a month.

By the way, i should tell you, that the unlimited plan is not really unlimited anymore. All you get is 3GB, So all you have to do is get that same 3GB as a mobile share plan, and Hotspot is included.

In conclusion, unlimited data has gone away, if you can still get hotspot added on, it will cost about the same as a shared plan, and you get a ton of new benefits with the new plan.

Here is the pricing for the new Mobile Share plans: http://www.att.com/shop/wireless/data-plans.html

Good Luck!

You can't tether with your current plan.
Look at your data use to determine if you need to keep the account or if you could easily use a paid data plan on Mobile Share.. On mobile share you can tether and share a pool of data.

@Signaladviser, ATT no longer throttles unlimited data users at set limits.

Nor do they allow tethering on an unlimited plan.

As of 6/12/15, it is unlawful for AT&T to block tethering. I never used tethering with AT&T (even though I was wrongfully accused of it), but if anyone is being blocked from doing it now, they should file a complaint with the FCC.

that is an untrue statement.  They can block tethering because you dont pay for tethering.  The unlimited plans never ever included tethering with them(unless you paided xtra for it and then it was a fixed amount and not unlimited).  the mobile share plans have it included in there info when you get the plan.

I think you need to read the net neutrality rules.  They cant block interconnect points.  Your the end user.

Right in the headline, it say "IF the FCC gets its way". The body of the story says  "FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler's proposal aims to stop."

@neo979, you're certainly reading more into that story than it contains.

Those rules are not in the final draft I read and are open to interpitation when a complaint is filed.

that story was from 2/5/2015 and there have been changes to the rules from what they were then.

AT&T now throttles “unlimited data” after 22GB instead of 5GB. reference: http://arstechnica.com/business/2015/09/att-now-throttles-unlimited-data-after-22gb-instead-of-5gb/
