How to unlock an Iphone

@Constructive- I'm pretty sure he was using prepaid service, so his sim that he used while he used this phone would have been a prepaid sim.

It's pretty clear that the automated system believes that the requirements are not met.  I actually signed up to this forum because there was another post I had found via google that said to PM @ATTHelp with the details so they could look into it, but the link they gave to do so says that @ATTHelp can't accept PMs anymore and to just post in the forums, which then says don't provide the details.  How can I get a human to look at this and either override it or explain more clearly WHY the requirements are not met?

Call AT&T. They can manually review it to see what the problem is.

I called AT&T - the rep said that they could not help me because i do not have an AT&T account, and the original owner would have to contact AT&T.   Obviously, i don't know who the original owner was.   Maybe i just reached someone who did not know what they were doing.  unlock ATT website allows anyone to request unlocking of a phone.

AT&T won’t discuss account information with anyone other than the account holder.  If you’re not the original account holder, or have his or her information, then AT&T won’t help.

It’s probably locked.  Use the unlocking portal.

How do you go about what? The “sim not supported” message means the phone is locked to some other carrier than the SIM card you are trying to use. You need to find out what carrier the phone is locked to and request they unlock it.
