Hi there @TheMOTD,

I understand how not being able to send MMS is concerning. I use this all the time to communicate with my friends and family. I would like to research why this is happening.

I was able to find a known issue when trying to send MMS while connected to a Microcell which causes the MMS not to send over it is related low data throughput.

To fix the issue, I was able to locate a great workaround. In order to be able to send messages over picture and video, we recommend enabling Wi-Fi calling on your device. Our Device How To Tool will guide you on how to enable it on your specific phone.

Once enabled, you would need to remove the device from the Approved User List. This can be accomplished by visiting att.com/microcell and following this article here on how to remove a number for the list.

After this is completed please test and let us know how it goes!

Followed instructions, still not working using Wi-Fi Calling. I have removed the Microcell completely, it has been powered off. I rebooted my phone, wireless devices, still not working. Thoughts?

I have the s8 and it works fine either with the mircrocell or Wifi calling.    I do have advanced messages on.

Good morning @TheMOTD,

Thanks for replying back to us and letting us know the issue is still occurring after the recommended steps.

Since we have ruled out the Microcell, which we first thought caused the issues with MMS. Our next course of action will be troubleshooting the device.

For this, please use our great resource Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool. This will allow you to choose Make & Model >Messaging. Once there, it will guide you to diagnose and figure out where the  issue is stemming from.

Please let us know how this goes! Have a great rest of your day!

@TheMOTD

I’ve  been assuming this is an ATT branded phone, but is it?

I have tested my microcell with the following devices: iPhone 4, 5 and 6 - no issues with MMS; Windows phone 7 and 8 - no issues with MMS; symbian through Anna - no issues; Windows phone 10 - does not send MMS; Samsung Galaxy 8 - does not send MMS. I think it's safe to say this is not a microcell issue. It should not be necessary to develop a work-around, to use wi-fi calling, or to use any special app (trucall, ATT messaging app, etc.). There is an obvious problem with Samsung phones and there are various postings going back to the Galaxy 4 about this specific issue. What is AT&T doing to work with Samsung to address this?

I ended up shutting off the Microcell. Turning on Wi-Fi Calling in the Phone Settings. Then downloaded Google Messages (which replaced Samsung Messages, I no longer use Samsung Messages, I now use Google Messages).

Google Messages knows when you are sending SMS v MMS. Now I am able to send MMS.

Not an ideal solution, but it works. I really wish Samsung and AT&T would work together to address the issues between Microcell and MMS as the Galaxy line is in the top two most used devices.

You are certainly one of the fortunate few, based on the number of hits and forum entries (this and many others) that list this problem. Specifically moved to this phone because prior Windows mobile 10 phone strangely lost the ability to send MMSs and receive some text messages through the microcell after a phone "update." Have only had this phone for 4 months, and initially worked fine, but similarly, seems to have lost the ability to send MMSs about one month ago. Guess will have to move to iPhone. Will probably just go to Vz wireless too. They are better in my area, and start fresh.
