redirect.ha cacheing problem for new users with Motorola NVG510

The Motorola NVG510 modem has some kind of cacheing problem that affects some (all?) ATT users who convert from DSL to Uverse.  Google "/cgi-bin/redirect.ha" for detailed reports from many users.  The temporary workaround was to change my homepage from "http://www.google.com" to "https://google.com" causing the modem & ATT to think it is a different URL and stop cacheing.  I'm still looking for a simple and more permanent solution, as, apparently, are a bunch of other users whose comments are found in the above google search.

Hi steve837,

I apologize about the inconveniences. It does appear to be an issue with the way our modem works and how google responds to it. With that, the easiest fix is to do what you just did, or to clear the cache and cookies. Here is a posting I found that explains what he has done to resolve the issue.

Hope that helps.

I just tried the fix from the google forum in your link but it does not seem to work any more. When I try to Save to enable Telnet, it gives me a Message Format Error. WT* you updated the firmware but didn't fix this issue?

How do I fix this problem? I tried changing the start page in chrome to "https" to no avail?

The underlying problem here is that the Residential Gateway (or modem) adds this decoration to the URL when it is unable to connect to the AT&T network and directs you to an internal page with a suitable error.  However, now that address (with the decoration) is cached and causes problems when you do have a connection.  To prevent this, you need to get your connection more stable.

Try the Troubleshoot and Resolve tool at http://ufix.att.com and see what it says.

It's 2016 and this problem still exists.  I had a brief Uverse outage two days ago and my internet is impossible to use now because of this cgi-bin/redirect.ha problem.  What is the solution?

@RJW1966  Contact ATT Uverse Care on the link in my signature below.

Send them a Private Message, on this link, and they should be able to give the help needed to solve your Uverse service 510 redirect problems.  The fix in the ATT U-Verse Care message above no longer works under new firmware in 2012.

Include your name, account #, email address and a good phone # (land or cell) and time to contact you on.

Check the blue PM envelope, upper right on every page, for their reply. They can do more than any phone rep and stick w/it till it's done. Good luck 😉

Edit:  In another thread, another used https://www.google.com and got on.

Ha, it's 2018 and the problem is still here.  It's caused so many damaging issues here that I don't know which way is up anymore.  My server now responds with unable to obtain secure connection, my phone will absolutely not connect to sites with the https and the problem doesn't go away by simply forcing me to work free for att:

I.e. it doesn't go away by simply erasing history and deleting cache (which I didn't want to do for the obvious reasons but now my history is gone and I'll be digging up passwords for days to recache the sites that att doesn't own but affects as well).
