How do I unmerge AT&T and Yahoo email accounts?

Split.png

You may have been notified that your E-mail account is about to get unmerged. You may have had a merged account where your AT&T E-mail and Yahoo E-mail were merged into a single account, which allowed the password and inboxes to be shared.

If you are not sure if you have a merged account, it is likely you have one if:

  • You can sign in to your merged E-mail account using either you AT&T or your Yahoo E-mail address.
  • You can sign in to myA&T with either your AT&T or Yahoo E-mail addresses.
  • You use the same password for both AT&T and Yahoo E-mail accounts.
  • Your mailbox receives messages from both your AT&T and Yahoo E-mail address.
  • When you reset the password, it changes the password on both Yahoo and AT&T accounts.
  • When trying to reset your Yahoo password, it redirects you to myAT&T.

What is Happening?
Beginning mid-November 2017, you will no longer be able to sign in to myAT&T or att.net with your Yahoo ID.
Beginning early December 2017, all merged email accounts will be separated into two separate email accounts.

What does this mean to you?

Beginning in mid-November 2017, you will need to start using your AT&T email address to sign in to myAT&T instead of your Yahoo email address.

  • To access your AT&T account in myAT&T, you’ll need to sign in using your AT&T email address. (Don’t worry, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)
  • To access your AT&T email account through att.net, you’ll need to use your AT&T email address through currently.att.yahoo.com and clicking on the mail icon at the top. (Again, we’ll tell you what it is if you try to sign in with your Yahoo email address.)

You’ll need to start signing in to your AT&T and Yahoo email accounts separately since you will now have two unique accounts.

  • The passwords will not change until you decide to change them.
  • Your AT&T E-mail account will be empty. This includes E-mails, contacts, calendar, information associated with Yahoo sites (Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Groups, Tumblr, finance portfolios). All of this information will be on your Yahoo E-mail account.
  • Your Yahoo E-mail password can be managed through the Yahoo Member Center.

What about my Sub-accounts?

  • All Yahoo accounts will become stand alone accounts.
  • Just like the parent accounts, any subaccounts that were linked to a yahoo account, the AT&T E-mail account will be empty and all the E-mails, contacts, and other things will be stay with the Yahoo account.
  • The AT&T subaccounts will still be subaccounts under the primary AT&T E-mail account.

What about my E-mails, Contacts, and Folders

  • Your E-mails, Contacts, and Folders for your merged accounts will be available when you login with your YahooID.
  • For your Yahoo E-mail, Contacts, and Folder issues, please reach out to Yahoo.
    • If you are getting an AT&T error message or not seeing your E-mails, Contacts, or Folders, such as a terminated account, try clearing your cache and cookies or using a different browser. Make sure you are logging in with your @yahoo.com account at mail.yahoo.com.
    • You can reset your password by selecting forgot password.
    • If you are missing E-mails, you can recover your E-mail at this site.

Not able to Sign In

  • Yahoo E-mail - Please contact Yahoo, as we no longer have access to Yahoo accounts.
  • AT&T - Getting incorrect password? Go to our help article to get back into your account.
    • Suspended / Inactive / Error 550.5.2.1 - Accounts were disabled from inactivity during the unmerge. To fix this, try to sign in and after 48 hours, your E-mail account will become active again.
    • Getting redirected to Yahoo site - Clear your cache and cookies or try using a different browser. Make sure you are logging into the right site. Go to currently.com and click on the mail icon at the top-right.

With the merge, do I need to change email address or can I keep sbcglobal.net?

Contacts list, yes.  The contacts actions have the ability to export and import.

Email folders, no and yes.  No, there is no way to do it in the webmail interface.  Yes, I think it can be done with an email client app (e.g., Thunderbird, Outlook, mobile device's email, etc.).

Although I never tried since I never needed to do it, I an envision that if were are already using a email client app for the "old" account simply create the "new" account in the client and copy the folders from the "old" account to the "new" account within the client email app.  If these are IMAP accounts the "new" account on the server should populate itself from the client.  And you are good to go.

If you weren't previously using a client email app you could do the transfer in a similar fashion by using a client app to aid in the transfer.  Create both the "old" and "new" accounts as IMAP in the client.  The "old" account should get populated from the server.  And now you are in the same state I just described previously.  Copy the folders to the new account which should in turn create the folders on the server.

Disclaimer: there may or may not be a few wrinkles in this idea since I am making up as I was writing this.  But on the surface it appears feasible to me using IMAP in a client app as the vehicle to sync up the servers.

Hello @Jcolserge

A recent change with Yahoo has caused AT&T e-mail address to unmerge from their servers. You can go to our site mail.yahoo.com and click on E-mail to access your e-mail at any time. Here is a link to get directly to your email and sign in.

I have an sbcglobal.net email account. I received an email message from AT&T on December 8 saying my merged accounts were separated, and they are not. When I log into mail.yahoo.com [edit: with my Yahoo account] I still see the AT&T-Yahoo co-branded web page. Messages sent to me at my sbcglobal.net email address still appear in my Yahoo messages.

I followed the steps to unmerge my yahoo email account from AT&T.  As of Friday 12/8/17, a window with a server error pops up after clicking unmerge. I am now unable to log in to my yahoo account.  No one from ATT has been able to help me thus far.  Can someone please help?

Same problem since 12/7.  Wasted hours on "Customer Service" lines, only to finally be told that I should try contacting Yahoo.  I was only contacting AT&T because Yahoo flatly refuses to take responsibility, and insists that this is an AT&T problem (although I haven't been with AT&T in more than 10 years).

Tried PMing ironically-named "ATTCares," but (unsurprisingly) no reply.

PLEASE post anything that will fix this (just NOT the AT&T-provided "instructions," which end up at a "SERVER CONNECTION CLOSED" error).

I to have had the same problem and it has driven me nuts for quite some time.... well, today I’m happy to say I solved the problem. My att.net is still attached to yahoo account, however, I couldn’t get att.net mail because it wasn’t syncing with yahoo mail. On my desktop , on yahoo mail , you can see the att.net account but it said not syncing with a red triangle next to it.

This is what I did to get my att.net through yahoo.

1. I went on att and changed my password .

2 .I went on yahoo and changed the password also

3. I went to the App Store on my phone and download the yahoo mail app , it’s purple and it the free one, there’s a regular one and a pro one (make sure you get the free one)

It , at least to me, that

I have an iPhone so the mail logo is light blue with an envelope .

4. Open download for yahoo , on phone, and go through the process of setting up and the all Your email accounts and setting up also security and something called an Account key . When your finished with everything ,all mail should be set up and combined on yahoo mail

I have the same issue. Have been told on AT&T's end that there is nothing that they can do as my account has been deleted from their servers and that it is a Yahoo problem. Contacted Yahoo and they state that I MUST have this fixed through AT&T. During this time I have absolutely no access to my email account that I have had for over 20 years. I has to be a ploy to lose customers forever. I know that with all of the incompetence I will never use these products again and suggest strongly that others avoid them as well.

Today when I logged into my email it started out giving me a new email format. Then when I closed that it reverted back to the old look and now all my personal folders that I would store emails in are gone. Can someone help me please?
