Proration of Final Bill
I recently transfered to Verizon from AT&T due to AT&T's inferior coverage in my area (otherwise happy with service but just couldn't deal with frequent dropped calls from my home/office). I fulfilled my contract earlier this year. I called billing and was told they can't prorate the final partial month. When I signed up I paid for a prorated month of service and don't understand why AT&T can't prorate the last month of service. Is there a supervisor I can talk with - not getting anywhere with customer service agent!

I can't imagine why any carrier would do that for an EX customer.

Which is why I asked, they were a first time poster jumping into a thread. Maybe it was proration for something else?

I had a similar problem as the some of the other posters - I switched to another carrier and was surprised to be charged by AT&T with a full month for five days of service.
It's true that their terms and conditions say that the don't prorate the last month of terminated service, but that doesn't mean that it's fair.
I was going to switch back to AT&T because of the reception in my area, but I'm staying with the new provider because of AT&T's behavior. Every month I pay my bill I feel like I'm giving it to AT&T.
The little guy isn't always helpless 🙂

You should check the terms for your current carrier too!
(Unless it's GoogleFi,) I bet they they don't prorate either...

@jose2017 Why did you sign it if you felt its unfair? You are upset with them for doing exactly what you told them you were ok with them doing

When was the last time you read all the terms and conditions? We usually assume that the terms and conditions are fair. Not so with the AT&T terms and conditions.

Have you read the TOS of your new carrier? If you had, you wouldn't be complaining about ATT. There is ONE carrier, precisely one carrier that prorates a final bill. All other carriers bill MONTH to MONTH. Not day to day. This is an industry wide practice.

Says who? Fair for whom? It's all a matter of perspective.
You're on a monthly plan. Every period for years you start a new monthly billing period, you always pay for a month. This time you only want to pay for 5 days, that doesn't seem very fair to AT&T.
Would I prefer they prorate? Yes, but they don't.
Would I prefer they charge $5 less? Yes, but they don't.
Would I prefer they rollover my data longer? Yes, but they don't.
All of these things are more fair to them than to me. But I bet they'd like to charge $5 more and maybe not rollover at all...

I cancelled my service on the first day of the new billing period. Now I owe $146.28 and they are threatening me with collections. Three different service reps told me I would get a pro-rated bill. I don't need stress in my life right now, so I guess I have to pay it. Nobody in my family will ever use AT&T again. They are all going to switch since I can't get this resolved. Enjoy my hard earned $146.28 AT&T. Be happy knowing that you aggravated a very ill person.
