FAN discount promised but NOT honored on AT&T unlimited plan

I was excited when AT&T offered the two unlimited plans on wireless service. I chatted with a customer care specialist on 02/27/2017 to enquire if I will be eligible for the FAN discount on the new plans. The response was affirmative (Reference Number:***).

I called in customer service to change over to unlimited plan on 03/02/2017 and again confirmed that I only intend to switch over if I will receive the FAN discount. The agent confirmed and we discussed the estimated charges to avoid any surprise later on. I could have changed plan online, however I chose to speak to an agent so that I can talk to a person and get this assurance.

I was surprised to see that there was no discount when I recieved my bill today. On calling to customer care, they denied honoring anh FAN discount, saying its not eligible. I cannot switch back to my old plan which was a promo plan and for the same amount of data I had earlier I would be paying very close to the unlimited rate. I have 8 lines in my plan and before this unlimited plan - I was on paying for 10 GBs, but getting 30 GBs data + 5GB bonus.

I feel cheated and this is my first post ever in an online community. I hope AT&T notices this.

If you know the dates that you called and were told that you would receive the discount under the new plan...you should be able to call customer service back and request through a supervisor that they go back and listen to the call which was recorded . Once they review the call, they should honor the promise! I would be persistent also!

Good luck...

its crap how they conduct their business, especially while they are raking in unfathomable amounts of money through us(customers)! I pay nearly $700 per month and have paid around $500 per month for over 10 years. I should have nothing to complain about for that cost...NOTHING!

Take care!

Read post #7.     Then read your terms of service and the website.   It is the written and published information that is honored.

FYI those posts are more than 6 months old

Doesn't matter anymore. Shortly after I made my original post, AT&T made it
clear that they are a horrible company that lies directly to its customers
and then refuses to own up to them. The great thing is I am now with a new
carrier that offers a significantly better line of services and above all
else, MUCH better customer service--with about 20% extra cash in my pocket
each month. Haven't had a single issue and got a fantastic deal on a pair
of new Samsung S8 devices to boot. Too bad I was the fool for not switching
sooner!

@chicagokevo Come back in six months and tell us how you still like them and the coverage (and who / where they are). Always curious of the coverage outside the city (I'm sure the big 4 all have pretty good coverage at my home, it's traveling that matters to me).

Everyone wants to save money.

I'm here for the coverage...

Well I've been with my new carrier for nearly 6 months now, and I can confidently say that service has been very reliable and the internet speeds much more consistently faster than what I had with AT&T. I'm primarily in the Chicagoland area, but also travel quite a bit. I've used my phone + data without any issues in Quebec (and for free!), as well as strong service on both coasts incl. in the mountains. Only issue is there can be some intermittent dead zones when traveling cross country in some rural areas. By and large, I've had significantly fewer dropped calls too which is huge. Oh, and there are some killer perks I'm getting such as a free virtual line that allows me to make/receive calls on any internet-connected device, plus I can text and surf the internet for free while flying. ☺️

Does this carrier have a name?

You're going to get dead areas with every carriers, the big question is are they areas you care about?

I'm sure AT&T has boatloads of areas where they don't have coverage.

But I don't care about the areas that I only pass through once or twice a year. I care about the areas that I frequent. I do go to some off the beaten path in Michigan and people are surprised I have coverage, so I'm hesitant to change.

This was my experience after 2 agents and a supervisor told me it would be applied to the unlimited plan. Finally a retention agent told me they screwed up but still could not apply it.

Cecilio : we are now reading the chat you have with Jonathan
Cecilio : Your patience and understanding is highly appreciated
Cecilio : I was able to see that it was really promised by the previous agent Steve, I am now checking what we can do for you
Steve : Thanks
Cecilio : You are so welcome.
Cecilio : We can see that you have such excellent account standing, your bills are always paid on time and we can see that you've been with us for so long.
Cecilio : I appreciate your patience and kindness and I do see here that I can apply it for you Steve today, the base plan charge of your plan is $115 and the 15% of it is $17.25
Cecilio : just to share I can only apply the maximum amount of that, would it be fine ?
Steve : Yes

I'm confused. They gave you 15% once? For every month? (how does it show up on your bill?)

That might have been your experience, or opinion, but I was given a discount after pursuing the issue as I did!
I am uninterested in having my post challenged or edited. I am interested in sharing my experience for the chance that my strategy may help someone else!
Thank you
