Loss of channels
AT&T has failed to properly prepare for the anticipated end of contract negotiation with Nexstar - resulting in the loss of ABC station, a MAJOR network. This continues to happen, as in the past, when other channels were removed from the lineup - as your customers continue to pay increased costs in service. We set up another TV(purchased an antennae) that would give us this basic channel for the interim - assuming we will get the channel back at some time in the future! I think it's time to contact other providers who can provide continuing service that we PAY for and don't get with AT&T.

A MONTH ago I lost TWO LOCAL NBC channels from my South Alabama AT&T/DIRECTV line-up. When I contacted customer service I was assured this WAS TEMPORARY and my channels (10 & 44) would soon be returned.
I am PAYING FOR THESE CHANNELS.
Over the Independence Day holiday I LOST TWO MORE LOCAL CHANNELS Fox network this time channels 5 & 55 provided by Nexstar.
I live in a VERY RURAL LOCATION and CAN NOT GET THESE CHANNELS unless I BUY a tall antenna, a converter box, and PAY SOMEONE to install it. I am DISABLED & on Social Security Disability so I can't AFFORD to do this.
And WHY should I HAVE TO since I am PAYING AT&T FOR THESE SERVICES.
We are in the MIDDLE of HURRICANE SEASON and RELY on LOCAL MEDIA to GET LIFE SAVING INFORMATION.
We were PROMISED by AT&T when they merged with DirecTV that we would CONTINUE to GET LOCAL CHANNELS with ZERO BLACK OUTS. We are PAYING AT&T and have absolutely NOTHING to do with the CONTRACT NEGOTIATIONS between service providers & AT&T.
AT&T is LYING about the ability to STREAM LOCAL CHANNELS ONLINE because when you ENTER YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER you are BLOCKED from receiving these channels whether thru AT&T portals or DIRECTLY ON THE STATION WEBSITES.
AT&T has the attitude that since these are supposedly "free over the air" channels that AT&T should NOT HAVE to PAY FOR THEM. It doesn't WORK THAT WAY and AT&T KNOWS this.
I have 2 options for getting my LOCAL CHANNELS back....BUY pricey equipment and have it installed (PAY for it) or SWITCH TO DISH.
I have another option - REPORT AT&T to my State Attorney General's FRAUD dept. for FAILURE TO PROVIDE SERVICES that I AM PAYING FOR. I urge other customers to do the same.
My question to AT&T is this....are you going to SURVIVE LOSING MILLIONS OF CUSTOMERS because ya'll are GREEDY and don't want to PAY providers for the SERVICES I AM PAYING FOR? What AT&T is doing is like PAYING your RENT to the apartment complex manager & the manager NOT PAYING THE OWNER.

Here we go again 😞
Realize that the corporation that owns the stations pulled your channel, not DirecTV. This is an all too common negotiating tactic used by these corporations to extort more money from TV service providers. None are immune, so even switching providers won't help.
You will need to use an off-air antenna until they allow DirecTV to provide them again. If you can receive the station with an off-air antenna, this is a good time to request DirecTV’s Local Channel Connector (if you have HR44/HR54). It’s free. And some folks are getting a credit on their account, too. Call DirecTV …. 1 800 531 5000
You'll also want to contact the corporation that owns these stations. Request that they allow DirecTV to continue carrying them while negotiations continue. And ask them why providers like Dish, DirecTV and Comcast must pay them anything when they get to use our public airwaves for FREE?!? After all, these service providers increase their overall viewership and advertising revenue. They're shooting themselves in the foot!
The FCC and Congress could easily fix this. Just allow service providers to deliver an out-of-area station when local stations get greedy. But I fear that the broadcast TV lobby is too powerful to ever let that happen.

Hey @Arcofirerescue,
AT&T has been unable to reach an agreement with Nexstar. This means certain local stations in parts of the country are currently unavailable. Visit https://soc.att.com/2TkYCrx to learn more.
Thank you for contacting the AT&T forums team!

I have just spent over 70 minutes trying to chat and then trying to contact someone that really cares about the customer at AT&Tbut I have just about given up on trying. I will now do my research on how best to cut the cord and use some of the less expensive streaming services that have become popular with the younger generations.
Do not call AT&T as they do NOT think that the customer is important.
It took 49 minutes of listening to first a customer support agent and then their supervisor reading the company line about how NEXSTAR refused to negotiate in good faith and they were the ones responsible for pulling the channels from the line-up. Finally, the supervisor has promised to connect me with the "Loyalty group" that will provide me with incentives to stay with AT&T. It seems that they found a way to reduce my TV/INTERNET/phone bill from $285 a month to $190.90 a month for the next 12 months... : robotsurprised:
