Verizon Samsung Galaxy s5 to AT&T?
Hello, I recently purchased a Verizon Samsung Galaxy s5 from eBay, no SIM card, to be used on a Consumer Cellular network since they had informed me that their carrier was Verizon. However, having purchased the phone, they then told me that since my phone was 3g and 4g capable they couldn't accept it. My friend has an AT&T plan that I'd like to get for myself and my question is, would I be able to bring this phone and use it on AT&T's network even if it is Verizon locked or would I have to get a completely GSM unlocked phone?

Congratulations on your new phone! The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 should work just fine on AT&T’s 3G and 4G LTE network and the good news, they do not carrier lock most phones to their network.
Once you activate AT&T service, simply place your new SIM in the S5 to get service and if you need to program the AT&T data settings into your Verizon phone, they are available Here.

@RoyalsForever I don't agree. While the GS5 can work on ATT, it will be hobbled quite a bit.
No MMS, no HD voice, no wifi calling, and LTE may fight you a bit. If using on prepaid, it will also not allow the use of the hotspot.
Why would you not use on Verizon?
BTW consumer cellular uses ATT and T-mobile, not Verizon.

most affordable one I can find that satisfies my needs is ATT. But the
phone was Verizon locked and I figured it would be hard to switch it since
Verizon and ATT are on different networks.
Also I'm very sorry that's my mistake, I meant club cellular...

I hope you realize that your statement, "The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 should work just fine on AT&T’s 3G and 4G LTE network" is 100% FALSE. Relying on AT&T representations like yours about LTE service (I have a chat transcript and recorded call), I ported from Verizon to AT&T. Lo and behold, no LTE service on AT&T. The local store was unable to resolve. AT&T technical support was unable to resolve, but assured me that a higher level support department would call me in 3-5 days to fix the problem. They never called me, so I called them. After 30 minutes of back and forth, an honest representative in Advanced Technical Support told me that there was zero chance of this device using AT&T's LTE service. ZERO.
Here's a corrected version of your statement: "The Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 DOES NOT AND NEVER WILL work on AT&T's 4G LTE network."

Most GSM phone are able to work on our network with very little, to no issues. Non-AT&T branded phones may not be able to fully access all the features an AT&T branded devices has. However; to give the phone the best chance to work on our cellular network, it will need to have its APN’s or Access Point Names updated to match ours. We have a fantastic article which helps guide on how to step up APNs.

@IamSean Your revised statement is not correct either. You see, ATT does not have 2 separate networks (4G and LTE), they have a single "4G LTE network" meaning you either get 4G service or LTE service but it's still the same network. So though you may be correct that a Verizon Galaxy S5 will never get LTE service, it does still work on the "4G LTE network" because it will get 4G service.

I think the question that isn't asked often enough is, "Will it work as well on ATT and on Verizon?"
And the honest answer is "no it won't".
The only Verizon phones that will honestly work as well on ATT and other networks is iPhone 5S and newer or the google Pixel. These phones have no carrier bloat that cannot be uninstalled.

The problem - as finally confirmed by multiple AT&T Advanced Technical Support - is that this phone can NEVER use AT&T 4G/LTE. The best signal possible is slow "H+" (8 times slower than LTE when I tested it). Nor can it send or receive mms messages, use HD Voice, etc.
All of this is contrary to WRITTEN representations from AT&T specific to LTE, text and other feature compatibility before I ported.
If someone finds this thread, they should be 100% confident that, regardless of what AT&T says, whether in writing or over the phone (I also called AT&T before porting), a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S5 cannot work with AT&T 4G/LTE, and many features of the device will be crippled if you switch. They should also be confident that AT&T will work hard to avoid remedying the problems created by their incorrect (knowingly false?) representations.
Let's avoid AT&T's "alternative facts," ok Katie?

ATT considers H+ to be 4G, so from their perspective it does work on 4G.The whole 4G thing is all marketing anyway. LTE isn't even true 4G.
