Can't make or receive calls. Text ok

Cannot make or receive calls on my sons galaxy A50 for several months now. Can send and receive text but he just informed me that he hasn't been able to call or receive calls ever since we switched him over to att prepaid. Approximately 2 months ago. I just thought he was sending me to voicemail everytime I tried to call him but it hasn't worked this whole time. Data and text work fine. Just calls. HELP!!!!!!

Good morning @Smurd20, your connectivity is vital to us, and we are here to help!

Could you check for us the software version on the phone and confirm that it has the latest update? This will help us to identify whether the problem may be related to a software update.

View software version

1. Swipe down from the Notification bar, then select the  Settings icon.
2. Scroll to and select About phone.

Check for updates

1. From the Settings screen, scroll to and select Software Update then select Check for updates.

2. Select OK. If an update is available, follow the on-screen prompts.

Note: If an update is available, follow the on-screen instructions to perform the update. If an update is not available, select OK.

Here is a temporary solution to try as well:

Temporary workaround

  1. Go to Settings > Apps > Default apps > SMS App.
  2. Select Samsung messages app (icon with 3 dots).

We look forward to hearing from you!

Hey Smurd20 lets point you in the right direction.

Try these troubleshooting steps to help get your calls back to working.

Turn off your device and turn it back on after 15 seconds to reset your device and reset your network settings to refresh your network. Go to Settings>General management>Reset>Reset network settings.

  • A common issue is that some or all LTE service may be toggled to ‘off’ within the device settings inadvertently.  This can cause both voice and data issues depending on the device.

To Resolve:

         Determine if the device is HD Voice capable If you are using Wifi calling, HD voice is enabled.

    • If no, you will need an HD Voice-capable device
    • If yes, but not AT&T branded, you may need to update device software.
    • Second:  For those experiencing loss of Voice and/or Data service, check the following settings and then power cycle the device.
      • Apple - based on iOS version:
        • Settings->Cellular->Cellular Data Options->Voice & Data->LTE (select LTE option)
        • Settings->Cellular->Cellular Data Options->Enable LTE (select LTE option)
        • Settings->Cellular->Cellular Data Options->Enable LTE->Voice & Data (select)Voice & Data option)

                     Android

      • Go to Settings > Connection > Mobile networks > Enhanced LTE services and select on.

Once complete, please ensure you power your phone off and back on to establish a fresh connection with the network.

We hope this information helps, and thank you for reaching out to the AT&T Community Forums.
