As a parent(and wife, lol), I think it is a very useful tool to help monitor other lines on my account. If there were more details on the categories, I could keep a better eye on activity and intervene if needed. I know there are other tools out there that can do this, but most of them come with fees or are tricky to manage. This option is already available as part of the bill so I think it "should" have more detail and is not an invasion of privacy on ATT's part. And seriously, you don't already think "they" are watching everything we do anyway?? I say relax and use or don't use the feature.
I think this information is pointless and misleading. Since porn would fall into video and entertainment, and a cyber stalker on Facebook falls into social media.
If you're looking at this as some kind of safety net, it's not. It's only a rough catagorization.
The only accurate information for data use is on the phone, and even that is limited by app or service.
If you have concerns:
1. Talk to your kids, no judgements
2. Consider iPhones with parental restriction or flip phones.
There is no substitute for involved parenting. I was fortunate to be a stay at home mother.
I'm not a fool. I know it is not 100% accurate. I was simply saying it has its advantages as a starting point to keep an eye on the type of usage. That is all. You wrote, "no judgments" but it seems you are passively casting judgment on my parenting. I guess you consider yourself and expert at that as well? Kudos to you.
Who called you a fool? Just because I point out the categories are flawed?
And I meant you shouldn't be judgmental about your kids conversations. You just pulled that right out of context. Wow, you're just looking for a way to be unhappy, and that sure is jumping to a "judgmental" conclusion don't you think?
My ONLY criticism is in this ATT offering. It means NOTHING. It's caused problems for years with Verizon customers because no carrier can access the actual data use, its private. But some customers are offended the carrier is peering into their data use and want it stopped, others want more information on their use and assume the same. It's a false premise and pointless information.
FYI this is a public forum. Anyone who read this thread should not be under any delusion that this feature on the bill is in any way accurate or informative.
