el 42408 handset
How do you deregister a EL42408 model? I have that current model and bought a used handset via E-BAY. I need to deregister it and need to sync it up with my base.

Hello @glads1234.
We appreciate you reaching out to us on the Community Forums. I would be more than happy to help you today.
If you still have access to the old base you can de-register the handset by following a simple process. You will have to de-register all handsets registered to that base.
I hope this information helps you, and if there is anything else please do get back to us. We'll be more than happy to assist you.
Thank you for contacting AT&T Community Forums.

this the type of handset.. the 3 other methods won't work. When I hit menu.. ie the center button, I do not get a settings option. It takes me to the directory. I can scroll from there into ringer volume and date and time but no settings

You don't worry about where it takes you, you follow the steps listed. One of these methods work for the vast majority who've tried them so if none of them work I have no further answers. The information posted by @ATTHelp is only for handsets that are already registered to the original base.
