Slow upload on NVG599 wired directly to it.

Im experiencing slow upload speeds on a 9 year old NVG599.

Long story short I ended up connecting my MacBook Pro to the NVG599 to see what I was puling down. Was slow and I did a full factory reset and tested. No change.

I do the internal speed test by logging into the router and it shows the advertised speeds. but that's not what I'm really getting.

With the port on Auto I pulled 901 down and 52 up plugged into the NVG599

With the port sent on 1gb full duplex I got 933 down and 358 up.

But my deco AEX5300 with the port set to 1gb full duplex and pass through only gets 50 upload.

I know there is always the chance of issues with using a second router, but With my MacBook connected directly to the NVG599 I should be getting what I pay for.

Auto port

1gb full duplex port

Hello @bjl95mustang1, thank you for writing back to us. We apologize for the inconvenience.

As you have mentioned that you have connected your MacBook directly to the Gateway and still you are facing the issue. This needs to be investigated and need to replace the gateway if its required.

@bjl95mustang1 I would imagine you are on 1gig fiber and as you stated nvg is outdated model and to reliably pair it with your mesh system it's best to upgrade to bgw210 rather than bgw320 (lots of folks reporting ethernet issues). Then usual disable wifi on your replacement bgw210 and and put it in passthrough mode. Just call 800 288 2020 ask for tech support say you have defective ethernet ports (most likely case here with slow upload speeds) and then most likely your rep will try to ship bgw320 to you at which point you may ask for bgw210, or at least that's what I would do with internet 1000.

Hi @bjl95mustang1,

We understand that your facing issues with slow upload speeds. Let's get the help you need.

There are a lot of variables that can cause poor WiFi performance, and the most common is the environment of the gateway. For instance, if your device is near multiple other electronics, plugged into a power strip or surge protector or not placed in an elevated area of your home, all of these things can greatly reduce the strength and speed of your WiFi connection.

Learn about internet speed, what affects it, and how to get the most from your service. Optimize your internet speed

We also recommend checking out our Smart Home Manager to do a Gateway Speed Test, which will measure the speeds that are reaching your Gateway before being distributed to devices, run a network health check and use your phone to test the WiFi strength in different areas of your home.

Let us know how it goes!

For further assistance we're here to assist you.

Thank you for the advice on asking for the BGW210. I will call and see what tech support will do.
