Slow Wi-Fi Speeds - Help and Things To Know From AT&T

WiFiv2.gifThere are a few things that can affect your speeds that you can fix! This article has those fixes listed below!

Resetting The Modem

Sometimes the modem needs to be "refreshed." Doing this can resolve many issues including slow speeds. Just press and hold the red reset button on the back of the modem. You will find more information here.

Minimize Interference

What is around the modem and where the modem is located can impact your speeds. If electronics like speakers or sounds system are near the modem, the interference from those devices emit, can affect your speeds and in-turn, affect your experience! Check out the links below to learn how you can improve modem environment and proper placement of the modem.

A Fact To Know: wireless speeds can drop in half. We highly recommend running a wired speed test with only 1 device connected. Want to know why? Click here.

Reduce The Number of Devices

The more devices you have connected to your modem, the less resources you have to share between. Each device shares a portion of your internet signal. If a single devices uses more resources, like a streaming device, this can in-turn decrease speeds for other devices. Being mindful of how many devices are connected is key. For more information, check out our Internet Plan & Number of Devices article.

Improve Speeds By Changing The Wireless Channel

Improving your speeds can be as simple as adjusting the channel. Check out the articles below to learn how to change your wireless channel. Helpful Hint: Each home is different so you may need to test a few channels.

Wifi

I live in what you would call like a compound setting and the wifi router is about 120 yards away from my house how can I boost my internet connection?

Internet

We just recently did away with Directv and installed Uverse.  Before the installation out internet service was decent.  Not bad, not great.  Now we are constantly having issues with WiFi. It goes in and out a lot.  I try to do a test daily and it usually reads between 5-30 mbps.   We pay for 45 mbps.  What could the problem be.  I do not want to pay for more when we can’t even get what we pay for to work.  Please help.

I just ran a test for today and it said “no internet connection” for about 15-20 minutes.

Re: Internet

Hi @Wfayette,

I just moved your question to our Wi-Fi Troubleshooting article. It has information on what you can do to improve your experience. I would recommend removing all but 1 device, reset the modem, and test again. A restart has resolved most issues like this.

Switch your internet to something else. They can't help you here.

Re: website is not loading in my AT&T home network

Yet again another worthless effort to help with the awful internet provided. I have refreshed the modem several times and there isn't a single sound system or speaker in the whole house. Even with all of this, I still receive constant slow speeds of 3-8 Mbps and a download speed slightly over 500 Kbps. (I have the supposed 50 Mbps plan) This service isn't worth a quarter of the over $65 charged each month. I find it funny how they show how fast things download. They have an example of being able to download 10 songs in 34 seconds. This is a lie as I can only download 1 song in over a minute. I have looked at other reviews and they have expressed the same disapproval for the internet speed. The internet cannot run 2 devices at the same time without serious lag. Even with 1 device, the internet is constantly under 10 Mbps. Overall complete dissatisfaction and if you are trying to decide who to buy your internet from, make sure it isn't AT&T!
