Hi, @lorenw5, we would be happy to assist with your extender.

We've had another customer find success with setting up the 4921 for Ethernet Backhaul with the following steps:

1. Connect 4921 to network using the provided Cat5 cable

2. Power up the 4921

3. 4921 automatically detects the Gateway

4. 4921 automatically starts accepting wireless connections using the same Wi-Fi info as set up on the Gateway

Please try the above, and let us know if this works for you.

If I'm doing this correctly (setting up the extender for Ethernet backhaul), will the app still report the extender as "Wi-Fi (5Ghz)" under the extender's DEVICE INFO screen ?

Hi there, 80zTiger. Let's address your question about Ethernet backhaul further!

To answer your question, it depends on the extender model. Our newest extender, the AirTies 4971, uses the latest 802.11ax technology standard, also known as Wi-Fi 6. It operates in 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz ranges. This helps improve Wi-Fi performance and extends coverage in your home. We have a page where you can learn more about AT&T Smart Wi-Fi Extenders.

When setting up Ethernet backhaul, it won't work with third-party routers unless they're in bridge or passthrough mode. If the third-party router has been assigned a static IP address, the first three sets of numbers must match your AT&T Wi-Fi gateway (for example, 192.168.1.XXX). The XXX has to be an open IP address number (0-253) and can't be used by any other devices on the home network.

Once you have the Smart Home Manager app installed, please follow these steps when setting up your extender:

  1. Go to Smart Home Manager. Sign in, if asked.
  2. Select Home Network Hardware.
  3. Choose Add Wi-Fi extender.
  4. Follow the prompts.

Please let us know if this was helpful. If not, we will need to look into this further.
