Cisco ISB7500 Ports Question

Received this DVR today as an upgrade to the older Motorola model.

The manual says the eSATA and USB are "reserved fro future use".  Does that mean they disabled/non-functional now?

What purpose does the LAN (CAT5) connection serve?

The USB port can only be used to power devices at the moment. It can't be used for storage expansion.

The Ethernet port on the back serves as a connection for U-verse instead of coaxial to the gateway. Ethernet is more reliable.

If you're a coaxial install, you can use the Ethernet port to give nearby devices a connection to the internet(though it's not supported by AT&T) and it sends multicast packets to the connected device.
