Voice keeps breaking up during phonecalls | Samsung Galaxy S8

Just got an S8 in the beginning of September. There was a recurring issue from the start where when I call somebody/somebody calls me, my voice would break out or sometimes it'll go dead silent on their end. During this breaks I always check my signal and I get full bars. I called AT&T support and even when I called the voice breaking as happening to the tech so he reported it as a ticket and shortly after I received a second phone call. The tech told me to go to a provider here in my city and try switching to a new SIM card. Went to provider, got new SIM card - problem was till occurring. By the way, it's JUST phone call. Skype and other things such as recording audio or video the microphone works perfectly fine. The tech from before mentioned turning off WIfi calling and LTE services/HD voice so I did that and still nothing. I eventually used my warranty and just recieved the new phone today. SAME issue however. Tested microphone, booted into safe mode, factory reset, etc. Issue is still there and very prevalent. Just left a ticket to samsung support as well but I wanted to leave something here as well. Please help!

Hello @BAmeroury,

Thank you for your detailed post!  This is a unique issue, especially after trying many troubleshooting steps!  We can provide further details!

You have done great troubleshooting to see what will fix this.  All the options you have attempted are exactly what we would recommend.  Since you have done the necessary steps as well as replace the phone and SIM card in its entirety, we have to recognize if it’s possibly not a phone issue, but network itself or location.

If you haven’t, please feel free to visit our Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool.  Here, you choose your Phone Manufacturer > then choose your Device > under Service/network issues, please choose Phone calls.  Here, you can follow a troubleshooting flow to determine the best resolution for your device!

If this still doesn’t resolve it, there are some basic thoughts and questions to consider.  Some things which may cause this are tall trees and buildings, building structure materials, population growth, construction, and weather.  If any of these are currently going on in your area, these may be contributing to the issue.

Do you recognize this happens in a certain location?  With certain people?  On certain phones or carriers?  Is there any pattern in which you recognize this issue happens with?  Do you have a case on your phone in which it may block the microphone?  I do recommend downloading Mark the Spot app which will allow you to provide feedback and statistics based on your local network to our network operations team.  You are able to see your coverage here.

If you do need further assistance, I will need you to please send me a private message to @ATTHelp to gather details for your account and situation.  Please also provide me with your name, account number, and the type of AT&T services you have (ex. Wireless, U-Verse, DirecTV, etc).  If there are any additional details which will be beneficial for further help, I would appreciate it.

I appreciate the opportunity to help you!

I am having the same issue and its very embarrassing when you are in a work meeting and your manager on other end cant hear you and always complain about my phone:(

I bought this new Samsung Galaxy S8 in Nov 2017 and it worked fine for about 3 months and suddenly it started happening. My voice also breaks or I hear the person on the other side as he is talking like a robot. I don't know what to do. Its not under warranty anymore and not sure of I can trade it for another because its been just few months I bought it.

I'm not sure if it's exactly the same thing but I will be talking to someone and there voice is choppy. I will hear every other word or so, almost like I have a bad connection. But I have full bars, I'm at my home, and it happens with different people, including companies I'm calling for assistance on business. I haven't had people tell me my voice is breaking up. But other people's voices break up on random calls. Also sometimes get an echo where I hear my own voice when this happens.

This is ridiculous. I several people telling me I'm breaking up so bad that they can't hear me and just hang up. Called ATT twice now with no help. Will probably go with T-Mobile as I'm disgusted with the same responses (it's the tower, it's not the tower....., I find nothing).

I came across this post while searching for information on problem I'm having with my Galaxy S8 breaking up on calls.  I can hear the other person fine, but they say I'm breaking up on their end.  My carrier is Verizon Wireless. They sent me a new phone (or refurbished I think) and the replacement phone is doing the same thing now.  It's not limited to one location.  It happens when I'm at work, or home or at the mall.  Has anyone received a resolution for this problem?

I also have an S8 an had the same problem with the person on the other line breaking up. My fix was to turn off the VoLTE (HD calls) option. I can now hear the other person perfectly.

I am having the same problems as well and it is a bummer when you are trying to work at home on a business call, and just a pain when you are on a personal call! I am in 32223 zip near a 5G tower - for whatever that is worth. My phone break-ups happen on wifi and off wifi. Somebody PLEASE find a resolution to this!

Chose LTE tethering

Not your ( carrier) LTE

That fixed mine
