Can my iPhone 5s still be unlocked without interfering with current phone?

I have a 5s paid and no longer use that I want to give to grandson. However, it still is under cell number I’m using for my current phone. Can 5s still be unlocked without interfering with current phone? I want to give him AT&T pre-paid services.

no need to unlock going from at&t postpaid to a prepaid, you can sign up online for prepaid and order a new SIM then its as simple as putting the prepaid sim into the phone, i would suggest though that you go into a store to get it setup that way you know its working when you walk out

You can request an unlock on the online portal.

However the phone does not  need to be unlocked from AT&T service to use on at&t service.   Just remove your old Sim card factory reset the phone and give it to your grandson.
