Samsung Eternity - exclamation point at top of widget bar

There's an exclamation point icon at the top of my widget bar. What is this, what is its purpose...and how do I get rid of it?

It always stays up there until you have an event and then it "jumps" out on the screen. Then it automatically goes back to the widget bar after you close the event.

That is the event notifier - for example when you have a voice mail, text message or mised call. You can not remove it from the widget bar.
