No LTE only HSPA

I have a Verizon LG v20 and recently switched to AT&T. My phone is completely paid off through Verizon. My phone works with att however I have no LTE service just H. I have switched the service from LTE/cdma to LTE/gsm and added a nxtgenphone APN but still no luck. Is there any way for me to be able to access LTE service with AT&T? The rep at the att store said it should be no problem for my phone to switch over and a rep at a different store told me hspa is exactly the same as LTE so I feel as if I'm just being lied to to get me out the door. I just want the truth from an att rep.

Good Friday afternoon @Golfguy81,

Since it is non-AT&T device we cannot guarantee all features will work.  This does include LTE data.

I recommend you double check your Access Point Name (APN) settings.   You can find the information here.  Scroll down to Program non-AT&T device data settings and click on Android data settings.  Make sure when you are done NXTGENPHONE is the active APN, and power cycle the phone.

Thank you for using the Community Forums, and have an outstanding weekend.

Go buy a 29 dollar maven 3 off the prepaid rack at walmart...  Give ATT the IMEI of that device you bought at walmart and dont switch your sim cards what a few minutes then reboot your phone...  You will have LTE...

After doing this I will have lte on my LG or on the maven? I've almost come
to the point of just rooting this phone and installing a generic OS that is
compatible with AT&T LTE however your way sounds much easier if it will get
me lte on my LG.

Hello @Golfguy81,

AT&T does not recommend rooting your phone.  The reason being is if it is done incorrectly, it can kill the device.

Since it is an unlocked non-AT&T branded device, we cannot guarantee features, such as data will work.  We have had luck in the past with updating the Access Point Name (APN) settings on most phones.

I highly recommend you follow the instructions I have sent you.  However, it does not guarantee you will get LTE service.

Thank you for participating in the Community Forums, and have great weekend.

I'm about to do the same (with my V20) and still wandering whether I can get LTE. I recently relocated and do not have good verizon signal in my area and I found att works better.   @Golfguy81, Please let me know whether it works for you now.

Probably not.  The V20 built for AT&T and the one built for Verizon support different LTE bands.

https://www.gsmarena.com/lg_v20-8238.php#vs995

The H910 is the ATT model and the VS995 is the Verizon one.

One possibility for you might be to purchase the ATT variant on Swappa and then sell the Verizon one.

@N8Maine Is correct.  Band 12/17 is a main band for ATT.  The Verizon version doesn’t have these.

The closest you can get to connecting to LTE when available is using @GLIMMERMAN76 advice and using a cheap ATT phones IMEI as a dummy in the system.

I am using a Verizon LG V20 on AT&T and I have full 4G LTE service. Yes at first it doesn't work with only HSPA service but its a fairly simple fix:

First change the  System Select to LTE/CDMA assuming you already correctly set up the APN. Then after a few seconds 4G LTE will appear but you are not done yet. (With this you can only receive text messages but can't send.) The next step is to go back to System Select and switch back to Global and again after a second or two the 4G LTE sign will appear but this time everything works.
