Any examples of users being able to use their SIM enabled watches independent of NumberSync?

NumberSync Question:

Ability to use a watch to call or text without NumberSync?

Outside of being able to call E911, does anyone know of any examples of SIM-enabled watches being able to use their primary number to send or receive SMS or calls? I know the desired functionality is to sync these devices via NumberSync. However, I'm attempting to see if anyone has been able to intentionally or not intentionally experienced the watches being able to use their existing number.

Thanks!

Hi @Lukecrose,

We'd love to assist.

Certain watches can operate on their own without the use of a cell phone, and be able to make phone calls/texts. However, battery life is not expected to last as long as a cell phone if connected to a cellular network for extended periods of time.

This should be available of any smartwatch that offers cellular connectivity. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let us know.

Colin, that’s not what the OP asked.

They question is can a smartwatch be used independently of a phone, with its assigned data number.

@Lukecrose   None of the watches that work on AT&T currently are capable of working as a stand alone device, using its data only number for talk or text.

AT&T does not sell a ‘kids smartwatch’ anymore.  Those devices did not use number sync and did work as stand alone phones.

With a phone plan the gear series can be in some instances BUT with the galaxy watch that changed.  You can buy watches from china that will do it.  The LG sport watch and Urbane 2 have sim cards and can have a phone plan added to them.(I just put a verizon prepaid sim in the LG sport I have and it found the verizon network I will try with a ATT sim later.)  The key here is the number with a wearable is just like a tablet a place holder for the data plan to be billed to.  As to battery life a watch staying connected to the cell network will get about 4 to 5 hours if its android based.
