simcard locked to specific phone

When activating a sincard, the Imei number is asked. Wondering if the activated simcard can thereafter only be used on that phone or any other similar phones?

Hi @BobDole!

Great question! Your SIM card will be tied to your phone number, and can be used in other compatible devices. The IMEI is used to ensure the proper plan codes are provisioned. For example, an iPhone will use different plan codes than an Android, for the data and features to work properly. It’s always a good idea to update your IMEI when switching devices.

Hope this helps!

Rachel, may I ask a clarifying question? So if an iPhone 6s breaks, you can remove the Nano-SIM from it and put it into an iPhone 5 that is your spare? Or if you by an iPhone 6s, you can take the card from your iPhone 5 and you're good to go? This is assuming you don't change plans between phones.
