I have an iPhone 5 which is with AT&T without commitment. I requested unlock to AT&T and received the following message:

Thank you for contacting AT&T about unlocking your mobile device.
Congratulations! Here are your unlock instructions:
For iOS 7 or later devices, please turn off Find My iPhone before unlocking your device.
1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have Internet connectivity.
2. Ensure the original SIM card that came with this device is inserted in your iPhone.
3. Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
4. Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For information on backup and restore, please visit http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414.
5. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.

I followed the steps and inserted a SIM card from another country. It says "SIM Not Valid". What should I do? I have requested unlocking a year ago and found unlocking is not smooth, so requested unlocking yesterday once again and received the above message again. Should I request it one more time by calling them or so?

For my iPhone 5s, unlocking was successful. So, I guess I understood the steps correctly.

I understand some iPhone 5 are not recorded in the systems correctly. If
both ATT and Apple and you have the correct IMEI number it would unlock.
So I have to wonder if your phone is not recorded correct.

Before you go off on a quest. Try unlocking the alternate way with a
foreign SIM card installed.

Could you tell me what you meant by "the alternate way with a foreign SIM card installed"?

Thanks!!

I has my iPhone 5 and got it unlocked after I finished my 2 year plan with ATT. I didn't realise that after putting my sim card back in my phone a while later that it locks the phone back to ATT. Does anyone know if they will unlock it again?

All phone unlocks must go through the unlock portal.

I have an old ATT iPhoe 3 which I had reset and I am trying to activate and unlock the phone. The problem is that it will not activate without an active SIM - what is the best way to activate and  unlock?

When did you request unlock?
