Why do I only have 1 bar on my phone

I had At&t for years and I was satisfied but lately my phone has 1 bar and very seldom 2 I live in the city where I have towers all around me. What’s going on with AT&T they have their hands into many jars lately that wireless has not been a priority. They told me it was my phone(I had apple 6plus) I upgraded to the apple 10 that just came out and guess what I’m still getting 1 bar. What’s up with that, my GF has  Verizon  And she has 4 bars all the time. I need AT&T to give me a  legit answer if there’s capable of that. I’m very  frustrated.

Hi, @Mb2011,

When you find you have a weak signal, go ahead and power down your device for thirty seconds before turning it back on. If the signal issue was caused by a momentary hiccup, this should force your phone to reconnect. When that isn't the case and when a power cycle doesn't help, please report the issue to us through the AT&T Mark the Spot app. The app is a good way to let us know about areas prone to dropped calls and slow data.

We hope you're having a great week!

@ATTCares I've been doing this for a year. Sometimes 7 or 8 times a day reporting through Mark the Spot app. After a year, I gave up and finally uninstalled the app. Doesn't matter whether inside, outside, in town, outside of town. Best I can do is 2 bars and usually just switch to 4G because it actually connects. Please stop giving people advice and solutions that only intend to put them off and not resolve the problem. Mark the Spot app only gives hope to people who rely on these devices for work. 1 year...not an exaggeration. Completed every survey and questionnaire that comes my way. Seems to have dumped the signal ever since I paid this device off. Fact: I had better service when I visited a third world country recently. Just sad.

I have an iPhone 7 and get 4 bars at my parents home. My mom has a jitterbug smart phone and only gets 1 to 2 bars maximum and frequently needs to move around the house to get service.  She doesn’t have internet or WiFi at her home. Why is she not getting better phone service?

With the information that you have given. I can only assume that your iPhone 7 has better antennas and more frequencies than the significantly less expensive Jitterbug phone.

I am so discouraged with AT&T customer service. If you use the “live chat” it’s an educated robot!

Customer service and AT&T webpage is not appealing, nor helpful. Your live chats are dropped when you’re asked to log into your account. There goes your chat and possibly the robot would have the right answer.

i have been an AT&T customer under contract for many, many, many years. I’m tired of only having 1 bar connectivity, dropped calls, missing calls and text messages are “”Not delivered” all the time. As mentioned in the message above, it depends on where I am in my own house as to what I can send, can get, etc. I don’t claim to know why I only have 1 bar, but my driveway is 1/4 miles long and I get 3-4 bars 1/4 mile away.

Whatever it is that needs to be done to improve this disaster needs to happen this week.

my account and the other 2 phones I’m paying for will pay the penalty and go somewhere else

I have found a couple of things that may answer questions above.  Low bars..1 or two will not provide enough signal to stream video and can also cause loss of service in dropped calls or loss of received calls.  Low bars can be caused by two conditions.  1. A weak device that does not receive the signals as well as a more advanced.  I experience this with my two devices.  My expensive phone Samsung 8+ gets 3 bars at home while my cheap tablet from ATT gets only one...ever therefore it is useless over the cell system at home.  2. If you live in a high cell phone traffic area the signal is weakened by all the phones connecting to a limited number of towers.  I have this condition too.  I live near the intersection of a congested interstate highway and very congested Federal highway.  The three towers near me are simply not enough to provide anything but calls and drop those for some often especially if they have lower level phones.  Streaming over my area's system is out of the question.

These are things you are not told when buying a phone and a provider's package.  I've learned the hard way by calling over and over about the situation only to get gaslighted then finally one tech told me the truth.  During this phone call crusade I found that it was possible for my towers to be either boosted or allowed to provide more streaming power for a time only to have them return to low power within an hour or so.  I suspect the system is so overloaded where I am if streaming were allowed it could shut down, break, or encroach upon calls.

this was happening to me as well...i put my phone in airplane mode and back off and instantly had full bars when only one or two was showing no matter where i went.  I didn't spend 30 secs with it in air plane mode or any certin length of time...i just fliped it in and out real quick and that was the results...

I am having the same issue. I restarted my phone, I went to at&t to change the SIM card, and I also reported through that ghetto mark the spot at&t app, and then reformatted the iPhone to brand new settings and the phone still has 1 bar of service at home! This solution did not help at all.

Reporting through Mark the Spot does not magically fix anything. It reports that you're having a problem there. It doesn't even guarantee that they'll fix it, it only reports a problem. If they get a lot of complaints, that's what might help something.

Reformatting your iPhone likely would not do anything to change your reception.

I usually have only one bar at home, occasionally two.  Never bothered me.  Never lost signal or dropped a call.
