Device Unlock Lengthy Timeframe

I have an iPhone 6s + that Is completely paid for. I requested for it to be unlocked on Monday and AT&T said to allow 2-3 business days to verify the phone is eligible to be unlocked. Why is it Friday and nobody can tell me why my phone hasn’t been unlocked yet? I have called customer service and they have told me the exact same thing the website said for the check your device unlock status page “it is in progress.” I know it’s in progress, it has been since Monday. When I asked if they could give me a timeframe of completion I wasn’t just told no... anyone had anything similar to this? If so, how long did it take to get your phone unlocked?

Hello @Corner0687,

I can understand your concern in regards to getting this device unlocked as soon as possible. The benefits of using an unlocked phone with different networks is always numerous.

The whole process from start to finish can take up to 48 business hours. It may take longer if there is a Holiday.

If you have any other questions or need additional help, don’t hesitate to let us know. I hope you have a fantastic rest of your day!

My question is why DOES IT TAKE 48 HOURS? Phone unlocks are INSTANT given the right tools to do it. T-Mobile, instant, Verizon, Instant, MetroPCS, instant, Cricket, INSTANT. Is it a deterrent to NOT unlock a phone?
