Tranfer apps data and settings to new device

Broke the screen on 2016 j3 (android 6) replaced it with 2017 j3 (android 7). I kept my google stuff backed up (contacts, etc.) Retailer advised me that i would have to reinstall apps i had , but i since learned that's not so. (I had already reinstalled a few of them. WHAT STEPS do I take to restore my apps, settings, etc. I understand samsung backs up that data for device users, BUT can I do it from a phone I can't see. (If it matters, i don't have any security on my 2016 and voice command from any screen)

Good morning @Jcrosby!

It is my understanding you want to transfer your data from your previous device to the new one.  We here at AT&T know this information is important to you.  I will be happy to assist you with this matter.

Your information is normally backed up with your Google account.  All you have to do is sign on with the same Google user name and password.  This should restore your contacts, settings, and apps.

Samsung does offer their own backup servcie called the Samsung Cloud.  To restore your information you would need your Samsung ID and password.  You can recover this information using the Samsung Recovery page.

Thank you for using the Community Forums, and have a great week!
