You were scammed. AT&T will not unlock the phone or remove the phone from the lost/stolen list without the authorization of the previous owner. If you can't get your money back, the phone is useless.

Hi @Fubard

As @QuarryRye mentioned, there's not really anything we can do on our end. You can see our unlock criteria here; for a device that doesn't meet these guidelines, there's no way for us to go around that.

Not that it will help much, but which Bold?

The 9000 from 2008 with the trackball?

Or the 9700 (2009), or 9900 (2011) with the trackpad?

Not sure what you mean by "over 6 months" as the phone is at least 8 years old, if not older.  Do you mean it's been more than 6 months since they were last active?

You can search for one of the many unlock services out there.  There are plenty for those older BBOS phones. Most are fee-based, but some are free.  I used one to unlock my old Torch 9800 back in 2014 before selling it.  That's pretty much your only option if the original owner can't do it.  AT&T can't help, and we can't post links to unlock sites here.

Just remember that even if you get it unlocked, those BBOS phones require a BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) data plan (AT&T called it BlackBerry Data, but most other carriers just called it BIS), and BlackBerry is killing BIS at the end of this year.  It should still work as a phone and with SMS, but anything else like email and internet browsing would no longer work (at least not without some workarounds like Logic Mail for email and maybe the Opera Mini browser).  BlackBerry App World is also shutting down, and there's still a question if BlackBerry Protect and BBID will still be running or not (BlackBerry has yet to tell us what the status of Protect and ID will be).

Which brings up another point.  Is there a BBID attached to the device?  If so, do you know the ID and password?

Lots to consider with a device that old.  Might be best to join the Crackberry forums and ask around over there.  Plenty of people there can steer you to some answers.
