UVerse NVG599 with WPA2-PSK(AES)?

Is there any way to configure Arris NVG599's WiFi Security as WPA2-PSK(AES)?. It looks like it can only be configured as WPA2-PSK(TKIP) on 2.4GHz and I have a couple of devices that only accept AES security, which is understandable as TKIP is less secure.

Related to that, Does any other of the AT&T UVerse Internet RG's support WPA2-PSK(AES) mode?

Hey @eulffe,

Let us help!

NVG599 gateways do not support AES. However, our BGW210 and 5268AC gateway's do support AES encryption.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for the quick response. Would you know whether I could request a no-fee change to a RG (like the BGW210 to replace my NVG599) that supports AES?. If so, I'd cross my fingers that is not too difficult to self install

AT&T Community Support was great on helping with this issue: I got the NVG599 replaced by a BGW210-700.

However, the BGW-210 apparently does NOT SUPPORT WPA2-PSK-AES encryption as initially stated in the first response. If it does support it, could you please indicate how to configure it?.

I also have the DirecTV router connected to the BGW210, and the device sees that signal as AES..  but anything from the Home WiFi comes as TKIP.

TIA

Hello @eulffe,

After doing some research, the manual for the device does indeed support WPA2. You can find out more information from this forums post and by going to the manual listed below it.
Hope this helps!

Hello Mihai,

Yes, it does support WPA2 .... BUT WPA2 does not mean AES. Both TKIP and AES are encryption protocols (with the newer AES considered more secure), that can be used by routers supporting WPA2. So, the RG could have WPA2-AES and/or WPA2-TKIP (also written as WPA2-PSK(AES) or WPA2-PSK-(TKIP)).

My initial question has always been about WPA2-AES capability in the RG. The NVG599 did support WPA2-TKIP and I was told that the BGW210 does support WPA2-AES... but the latter -from what I'm seeing it the unit we got- is incorrect. BGW-210 supports WPA2... but TKIP rather than AES.

Any further suggestion?. It seems my only option is to get an external router with WPA2-AES capabilities and do 'IP Passthrough' on the BGW210... but I'm concerned as my BGW210 is also used for Uverse VoIP phone and DirecTV service (for the minis Bridge).

Hello @eulffe,

If need be, you can bring your own external router and as mentioned set it up using bridge mode, as you mentioned the device supports TKIP, not AES.
Can you go into more detail about the concerns of bringing your own router and IP Passthrough?
Hope to hear from you soon.
