ATT does not offer unlimited data for a hotspot device. The $65 plan is for a phone, it will not work with your hotspot device. The 5GB hotspot allows you to use your phone as a hotspot.

No! That plan you are looking at is for a phone and cannot be used in any other device other than a phone that is compatible with AT&T. It allows you limited hotspot use.
If you have a compatible hotspot, and I cannot confirm anything purchased outside of the United States will work in the United States with AT&T, you need to buy a plan that is specifically for tablets and hotspot devices.
AT&T does not offer an unlimited plan for data only devices.

To answer your question, you will need to purchase an AT&T Prepaid SIM with one of our Prepaid plans to enjoy the hotspot benefits when travelling to California. You can find our Prepaid Plans here.
You will need to opt for one of the plans that offers a Mobile Hotspot feature. Once you've chosen your plan, you can purchase a SIM with your chosen plan, and insert it into your Mobile Hotspot device.

Thank you very much! I am looking at the unlimited plans, at 65USD per month. It gives my device and/or mobile modem unlimited data, which I can share with my laptop, correct? This plan also says 5GB Mobile Hotspot, what does that mean?

Yes! The Unlimited plan which you chose, can be used in your device or mobile. You can also share the Hotspot of 5 GB to your laptop which is limited. It means you can only share 5 GB of hotspot per month.
