I might be purchasing a used AT&T Samsung Gear S2. I'm wanting my son to use it without a carrier service connected. Can this be done with this watch and a phone of another carrier?

We'd be more than happy to answer that question for you. You can absolutely use that device with a cell phone from another carrier. However, you'll need to make sure that the smartwatch is compatible with the kind of cell phone that you're referring to. Let us know if this helps.
