TV Sound stops when channel is changed

the sound on my TV stops everytime I change the channel. I have to restart the receiver each time to get the sound back. I have an Arris receiver.

Hmm, that’s an odd audio problem, but we can certainly help, @dmayhan. Let’s try a couple of steps first:

  1. Try checking the cable connections for your Uverse receiver, specifically those between your receiver and your audio output. Make sure everything is secure and not wiggling loose. If you notice any cabled that look damaged, be sure to replace them.
  2. If you’re using a home theater system or sound bar, try plugging your Uverse receiver directly into your TV, and use the TV speakers. If the problem doesn’t happen when connected to the TV, there may be something going on with the home theater system.
  3. If neither of those steps help, factory reset your receiver. Following the steps in that article will not cause you to lose your recordings, and will perform a full software reset on the receiver.

We’d also recommend checking out our Uverse audio troubleshooting guide. There are some helpful tips and tricks that may get your audio up again.

If the problem is still there after those steps, we do have a couple quick questions:

  • When did this problem begin? Did it coincide with installing other TV equipment?
  • What model of Uverse receiver do you have? You can see how to locate it here, or just check below the power button on the front of your Uverse receiver.

Let us know how it goes, @dmayhan, we are here to help.
