Samsung receiving and sending duplicate text messages

I am receiving multiple duplicate text messages and apparently people are receiving duplicate text messages from me. I have a samsung galaxy S8 and I'm using the default texting app. Any ideas?

After running an update on my Samsung Note 4, whenever I text, the text is sent in duplicate. I don't know if the update is responsible, I would like a resolution, though. Thanks.

Hello @pjk001,

Thank you for reaching out to our Community Forums! I understand how inconvenient sending duplicate texts can be, but not to worry. We will get this taken care of!

Duplicate texts can be the result of an issue with connecting to a nearby tower. You can try removing and reinserting your SIM card to reestablish your connection to a tower.

To do this you can use our Device Support Tool! All you have to do is select your make and model device, then select View All Solutions. After this, select About your device under Device Topics on the left side. Lastly, pick Insert SIM & Memory Card. Please, make sure your device is off when you do this.

Confirm if this issue exists only with the default messaging app or a third-party one. If the app is third-party make sure it is up-to-date by checking it in the Google Play Store.

You can also try turning Advanced Messaging off. Though this has cool features, it can also interfere with some of the basic functions. To do this go into your Messages App > Select the 3 dots > Settings > Advanced Messaging > Off.

I hope you found this useful. Have a great rest of your day!

My Samsung galaxy s10 plus keeps sending duplicate texts, but only when it has emojis. How do I fix this?

Go into the Messages settings and click on More Settings and then Text Messages and change the Input Mode to Automatic and this solved it for me

Hello @mcourchange11,

I can relate to the confusion of seeing double messages being sent out instead of just one.  It will be my pleasure to help!

What it sounds like it could be is the network resent the message, thinking it hasn’t sent the first one.  Great news, you can refresh the phone’s connection to the network from the phone itself! Please turn On Airplane mode, reboot the phone, and then turn Off Airplane mode and then test to see if the issue is resolved.

I also advised visiting our Troubleshoot and Resolve Tool. This great resource can help pinpoint what is causing the issue and give steps on how to resolve it. After selecting your phone’s make and model, please go to Network/Service issues > Messaging.

Please let me know if this helps! Have a wonderful day!

Greetings @jknecht86!

Being able to send and receive text messages efficiently is definitely a staple for any device. I personally use my text messaging as my main form of communication. I will be delighted to share with you some options to try out.

Since you have noticed the device to send and receive duplicate messages, have you attempted to reboot the phone? By powering your device off and back on, this can assist the phone to refresh its systems and connections.

I also highly recommend deleting all your message threads in the inbox. This entails clearing all your current messages, most especially the threads from and to contacts which the duplication is occurring with.

If you are still running into problems, I invite you to please run your device through our Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool. Select your make and model phone, then click on Messages to get started.

I hope this is found to be advantageous. Have an awesome rest of your week!

...att person. Has this method you describe ever actually resolved anyone's problem??

We come to these support threads for actual answers. Quite honestly if we wanted que card responses we'd call support and get them there.

Have you guys never actually duplicated this on your own devices, and simply rebooted your phone and had them go away? Because I can assure you that many of us reboot our phones quite regularly and we're still getting duplicate text messages.
Has your troubleshooting tool ever resolve the problem? If it was that easy I'm pretty sure people would have used it. Further have you actually duplicated the issue on your side and used your own tool before you suggest others waste their time with it? We come here for real answers, not cue cards.

duplicate texts in a group text

I just switched to an iPhone 7  from an Android. I have one contact that has an Android. Whenever we are in a group text, regardless of the group, when he replies, his response is written twice in the reply bubble.  A single text to me is fine. It's driving me crazy.  Any new group text regardless of who created it will have his replies duplicated and we have deleted strings and started new ones.Any ideas?

thank you in advance

Hey there @bioluck,

Thank you for visiting the Community Forums! Getting duplicate text messages in a group text from only one recipient can definitely be concerning. I apologize for this! It's my pleasure to help.

I understand you have deleted threads; however, have you tried doing this with all of the numbers in the group message? After deleting, please turn off the phones and turn them back on and try it out again.

Also, if your friend has an Android they may want to check their Advanced Messaging settings in their device. If the issue continues they can see if this happens when texting other people in a group message as well.

I hope this helps! Dont hesitate to reach back out to us if you have any further questions or concerns. Thanks so much for your time. Have a beautiful weekend!

Ok new Update. I deleted his contact; he deleted mine, still have the issue. Also, we noticed it's  in SMS, if he sends a picture and text, they only appear once. Not sure what advanced settings on his phone you wanted us to look at.

Thank you for your time!

I am having this same issue, and it is really bugging me. Switched from Verizon to AT&T and got an iPhone 7. Now, when I’m in a group text, I get messages from my friends with androids with the same response typed twice in the same text bubble. I tried everything and it continues to do this. Please please help!! D5D6942A-A09E-4C19-8FFF-52E2324DD105.jpeg

This is happening to me as well.  Last time was a group text with four people, only one of which does not also have an iPhone.  Everyone else is on verizon, I’m on AT&T.  I get duplicate messages from the person on an Android phone.  Despite others in the group text also having an iPhone, I’m the only one that gets these duplicate messages.  It’s very strange.

I've been having this problem for months.  They do not show going out twice but almost everyone is receiving them twice.  I've cleaned it up and rebooted many times and so tired of this.
