Photos larger than 1MB will not send over WiFi Calling even with Advanced Messaging activated...

I have chatted with customer service and the tech department 3 times now on this issue with the last time being very unhelpful.

I started out yesterday just asking for someone to help me with an issue I have had for a couple weeks of picture messages not sending over wifi calling or taking forever to send (30 minutes or longer). The first person I talked to said they fixed the issue on the back end and told me I shouldn't have anymore issues. I noticed my picture messages were sending after that for a couple hours but then it started acting up again so I got on another chat. During the second chat, the person told me they had it fixed and had contacted the back end developers or something and gave them my email so that I would get updates on this glitch. She also told me to "rest assured" that it wouldn't happen again and that she would put a note on my account telling people what the issue was and how to fix it. My picture messages yet again seemed to be sending just fine for the rest of the day yesterday.

Fast forward to this morning and my photo messages are not sending AGAIN! I get on ANOTHER chat with someone who looks over what I tell him is the issue and ultimately sends me over to the "tech department". Once connected, the person tells me that there is a 1MB limit on picture messages so I am out of luck since all the pictures ive been taking are over that size. I told them that I had not experienced an issue with this before a couple weeks ago and that I don't have the issue when sending pictures over mobile data when I have 5G. I then explained how I have poor signal at my house so I am forced to use wifi calling since AT&T has no other solution for that last I knew. They then end up telling me they can get a cellbooster requested for me. I ask if it costs anything extra and instead of answering me they say "we have exhausted our resources to help you and your issue still isn't resolved so I am sending you over to my supervisor"... Not sure why they couldn't answer that question so that's what I ended up asking their supervisor and sure enough it would cost me an additional $299 just to get that cellbooster. Absolutely not happening since I already pay AT&T plenty for service.

However, since getting off of that chat without my issue being solved, I began researching about this 1MB limit. I discovered that AT&T boasts about having thus Advanced Messaging setting which allows you to send larger photos over text... I have had that setting turned on the entire time so I should've been able to send these pictures the entire time! Lovely of the tech department to not mention that at all. To top this off, I am discovering that there is no way for me to reduce the resolution that my camera takes photos at on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S21 5G). The only thing I can do is manually change the size after I take a picture which is pretty ridiculous to expect someone to do every single time.

I am hoping maybe someone else besides AT&T has some sort of fix they can share with me because AT&T seems to not know what they are doing.

Thanks in advance!

Hello @EmsMom20, we are here to help with your picture messaging concerns.

We understand your frustrations, and we are here to help. If you're using advanced messaging, the file limit is 100 MB. Default messaging has a cap of 1 MB, and Advanced Messaging caps off at 100 MB.

Also, what plan do you have? Advanced messaging has to be included with your service.

Review our website for more information on Advanced Messaging Phones.

Let us know if this helps!

I am finding that I am still having the issue even through the pictures would send after several minutes the other day. Now a 200KB picture will not send and I have been trying for about 20 minutes. Wifi calling is on. I have toggled it off and back on. Advanced Messaging is on. I have toggled it off and back on as well. Nothing seems to be working for a picture message that shouldn't even involve the advanced messaging issue...

I also still have no issues when I am away from my house not using wifi calling. Pictures send almost immediately then. Just seems to be when wifi calling is being used.

Omg i found your article because I am having the same issue right now and it is so frustrating! I called them today and they were so unhelpful with me as well. They were going in circles and explaining to me that my solution to this is to not send pictures over 1MB which I told him that’s impossible because every picture taken by my phone is over 1MB. I asked him how has it been possible for me to send pictures before but now all of a sudden I can’t? and all they said was, “probably because the pictures you were sending before were under 1mb” which I debunked that theory because I went back and saw pictures I’ve sent in the past and they were fairly over 1MB so it doesn’t make sense as to why all of a sudden this is happening. Well, they kept going in circles with me so I got fed up and hung up on them. I will be calling them tomorrow again. and I will be calling them every day until they resolve my issue because this is completely unacceptable out of all my years of being an AT&T customer I’ve never had this issue. They should give us a refund. I already pay AT&T so much every month. And this is a new device so it shouldn’t be having issues. So please have anyone has a solution to this problem, help me out. I would like to receive pictures of my son when he’s with his dad. And vice versa thank you!
