ZTE MF279 WILL NOT UPDATE

I have a ZTE MF279 router, I cannot get the current software to download & install, this is a known issue and there has been no solution offered to me other than to purchase another device. Please don't suggest resetting the device I have tried and this does not work!  IS there a workaround available? HELP!

Hello @VERYhackedman

Thanks for posting. We would like to take a look at your MF279 software.

When you go to att.wirelessinternet/ and log in, do you see AT&T Software Update in the lower left corner of the screen? If yes, what happens when you try to update your software?

When I attempt to update the software it says there is no update
available, not so, as the software version installed is MF279V1.7, V1.11
is the current version, will not download and install, nothing works,
not resetting or removing sim card, again nothing works to get the
updated software installed.

Okay, thanks for letting us know @VERYhackedman. How old is the device? We honor a one year warranty new devices. If you device is less than a year and would like to explore your options please check out Exchange a device under warranty.

The device is more than a year old, it wasn't over a year old when the
software problem occurred, the device itself still works, but the call
log, call blocking, messaging and update capabilities have been disabled
by a defective update software package sent out by AT&T.

Hello @VERYhackedman,

Thank you for informing us. Let's make sure that you're following the correct steps to update your device's software. You can follow these steps to get started:

  1. Connect MF279 to PC by Wi-Fi or Ethernet cable.
  2. Go to att.wirelessinternet/ and log in.
  3. Select AT&T Software Update in the lower left corner of the screen.
  4. The current software version displays; select check for updates.
    • Status Message: Processing...Please wait while the AT&T software update is downloaded. The download process may take several minutes
  5. After downloading completes; select Install Now.
    • Status Message: Installing...Please do not turn off device. The AT&T Software update will take several minutes and will not change or delete any of your Wireless Internet device settings. All services (including emergency calls) will be suspended during the installation
    • The device restarts after installation is complete.
    • Notification: You're logged out of your account. Please login again.
  6. Update complete displays after logging in.

If you're still unable to complete the software update after following the above steps, you may need to replace the device. Unfortunately, there is no other option available to get the latest software version downloaded and installed. Let us know if you have any further questions or concerns.

I have tried the procedure as outlined numerous times without success,
just reset the device and tried again, as always happens it said there
is no software update available... not true!

Hello @VERYhackedman,

Thanks for letting us know. We completely understand your frustration. Now that you've tried resetting, and you're still unable to update the software by following the provided steps, you'll most likely need to replace the device.

If the device has to be replaced to correct the software issues it is
unacceptable for me to be required to pay for the replacement. The
issues that I have been having were caused by a software update that was
installed before the warranty expired, out of the box the device
functioned as intended, now I have a partially functional device without
the security patches which are included in the current software
package.  I have low confidence that a similar issue will not reoccur
with a replacement device.

Hello @VERYhackedman,

If the warranty for your device has expired, you'll need to either replace the device or purchase a different device. Unfortunately, warranty replacement is no longer an available option. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Now that we have gone around in circles for 5 days we finally have arrived at our destination. I purchased the device in January 2018, it worked as designed for a time, when the new software was released sometime after April 2018 it would not install, and some of the other functions were disabled as well. Now I am told to purchase another device, this is not the way to do business, a replacement should have been provided to all of us with the affected devices. The warranty is now expired but that was not the case when the problem occurred, AT&T should replace my device at no charge as a good will gesture, to show customers some loyalty.
