unlock request told me to use the unlock app on the phone... which doesn't exist!

I'm attempting an unlock on a little flip phone- 

an AT&T (Foxconn) "EA211101" with KaiOS. 

if I put a non-AT&T SIM card in it and turn it on, it asks for an unlock code... 

so I submitted the request online (as I have done many times with smartphones), but the emailed response said "Your AT&T PREPAID phone comes with a device unlock app on it. Please use this app to make your request."   

uh... no it doesn't. (I even put it on Wi-Fi and attempted to search the  KaiOS store... nothin'.)

how do I get the system to generate an unlock code, like all of the other unlocks I've performed before?

Geesh Mike, did you even read the original post?  It's carrier locked!

Please invite the original poster to direct message so that you can help them submit and unlock request to remove the carrier restriction.

hi, Mike- thanks for reaching out.  

I thought I made my question clear... 

no, it is not PUK locked... it is SIM (carrier /network) locked, and upon startup with a non-AT&T SIM, it asks for a SIM unlock code, as it should. 

however, the AT&T automated unlock system does not email me a SIM unlock code when requested- it instead responds with a message that this phone has a "device unlock app" that I'm supposed to use, but it clearly does not... it's just a Cingular Flex (KaiOS) flip phone. 

I'm not sure if it was originally sold as a Prepaid phone or not- it's just an AT&T-branded Cingular Flex (EA211101).

my question again:

how do I get a SIM unlock code for this phone, when the automated system refuses to email it to me because it doesn't recognize that this is a basic flip phone without any prepaid "unlock app"?

I also have this issue trying to unlock an ATT prepaid phone that's been in use on Cricket Wireless for over a year.

I also tried to do the unlock process and it was denied because it said to use the unlock app. There is NO unlock app on the phone (nor able to download it).

I did what the ATT prepaid support asked.

I've been going back and forth between ATT and Cricket and no help yet!
