Cell Phone Voicemail Password

I am unable to access my voicemail on my cell phone (Alcatel AT&T Cingular Flip 2 4044). I wrote my voicemail password down and filed it away with the printed copy of the cell phone user manual. However, the password is not being accepted as the right one. To reset the password, according to info I found, I need to enter the current password first. I DID set up my voicemail soon after I had the phone activated. I did call my cell phone from our landline phone, heard the voicemail greeting, and left a test message.

What do I need to do? Talk with a customer service representative?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, Jacob -

To answer your questions:

- I obtained my new cell phone (with a new number) in April 2019.

- Shortly after receiving the phone I activated it and set up my voicemail.

- It was not until late August 2019 that I received a call which I could not answer and a voicemail was left. When I tried to retrieve the VM, is when I found that the password I had thought I entered at voicemail creation was not being accepted.

By the way, I forgot to state that my cell phone is a Prepaid one. Therefore, the link you provided above to Change Voicemail Password: https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html?source=ESSZ0SSPR00T1EsEM&wtExtndSource=20190901170135_Other+Phones+%2526+Devices_Mobility_LITHIUM_2607551944#!/wireless/KM1009176?gsi=0xyiqn , does not provide the proper instructions. I stumbled upon the instructions for a Prepaid cell phone:

https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/wireless/KM1008971?gsi=0xvuhh

I followed the instructions for resetting a Prepaid voicemail password and had success. Note: The instructions were missing some steps. The instuctions are as follows, with information I added marked with an *:

Learn how to reset your voicemail password

To reset your voicemail password for your AT&T PREPAIDSM phone (formerly GoPhone®) or prepaid Wireless Home Phone:

  1. Call 800.901.9878 (611 from your AT&T PREPAID phone or connected home phone).
  2. Confirm or enter your 10-digit wireless number if prompted.
  3. Say More options when prompted.
  4. Say Technical Support when prompted. *
  5. Say Change my voicemail password.
  6. A Customer Service Representative will reset your voicemail password.
  7. You will need to provide your 4-digit PIN.*

You will need to set up and create a new voicemail box. *

After resetting your password, you won’t receive new voicemail messages until you create a new password.

Thank you -

is there a way to do this w/o calling customer-/technical- support?

i once got to reset my voicemail password through a text message, using an AT&T brand "pre paid phone" it had the v.mail app which allowed customers to download v.m. messages w/o ever entering their password.

Hello, PenSolar -

To receive an answer to your question from someone who is knowledgeable, I suggest you post it as a brand new question. I only know what worked for me.

Best wishes.
