In Text Log, texts showing as sent on certain days and times that were never actually sent

In my text log, it shows 13 texts back and forth with one specific number.  I only sent 3 texts to that number on that date.

Later in the week, on one date, it shows 9 incoming/outgoing texts with that same specific number, and we never texted at all that day.

Does anyone know why this is happening?

This is crucial for a legal case.

Hey there @legalbeagle2024,

Let's shed some light on your concern.

Generally, cell phones should not be sending outgoing text messages on its own. When this does occur it's usually due to either malware or a 3rd party app on the device.

Depending on the make and model of your device, try restarting the phone in Safe/Recovery Mode, and if the issue doesn't occur, then your experience is caused by an app on your phone. You'll want to exit Safe Mode and find the responsible app.

Hope this helps.

Jessica,

Our phones don't actually show any texts being exchanged but on the ATT log received via a subpoena, it shows numerous SMS text exchanges between the two numbers.

AT&T is required to respond to legal subpoenas accurately.    If there are texts shown on the text log provided by AT&T under a subpoena, and they aren’t on your phone, there must be some reason.  The obvious one would be that the texts on the phone were deleted by someone.  For what else could have happened, no one here knows, nor are you likely to get an answer from customer service.  This discrepancy is something your lawyer should be dealing with through the legal process.
