Question about extremely slow network

I bought a prepaid 5G unlimited 1yr plan. I got my SIM card today, but it seems like I have really slow connection while others using art has faster ones. I called 611 and it said I haven’t added enough money to start using my plan, and my balance is 0. I don’t understand why cuz I already paid.

Check your method of payment to make sure it has indeed been taken.

Have you ported in a number?

Can you make calls and send and receive text messages?

Hello @Eva1348485, we're happy to help with troubleshooting steps to resolve your Prepaid speeds.

We may temporarily slow your speed at any time if our network is busy. Connecting devices to Wi-Fi networks is a great way to use fewer wireless data. If there aren’t any Wi-Fi networks available, your device automatically switches back to wireless data.

Heads up: Some apps on your device use wireless data even when connected to a Wi-Fi network.

You can learn more with our device tutorials on how to:

Sometimes, your wireless device or its settings can cause connectivity issues. Make sure you have your device handy and try this:

  1. Go to our troubleshooting tool.
  2. Select your phone brand and model.
  3. Choose the option in Connections that's giving you trouble (for example: Internet or Phone calls).
  4. Follow the prompts to fix your issue.

If you are experiencing slow data on your AT&T prepaid plan, you can try the following solutions:

  • Sign up for a VPN, such as NordVPN, which offers unlimited bandwidth, strong security, and access to a wide range of streaming services. Download and install the VPN app on your device, open the VPN app and select a location, then click the Connect button

  • Check your internet connection speed at http://sm.att.com/60137250. Move your AT&T Wireless Internet to an area with a stronger cellular signal, typically near a window or outside wall. Ensure that other connected devices are not transferring a large amount of data.

Meet us back here with the results of the troubleshooting tool if you still have questions.

I have prepaid 16g plan and have for several years. Too much hassle to switch providers. Why is my Internet connection so slow? I have not even used half my data allotment. I never do. However this has left me without Internet at critical times on vacation when I  needed GPS or need the use of an app. This is across at least 3 phones I have had in this plan.
