Incoming text in abroad using prepaid AT&T

Hello!  This query may have been answered in the past so hoping for your patience.

I’m planning to travel abroad and will bring my prepaid phone.  Can I receive incoming text or call from the US?  If not, what option do I take?

Thanks much in advance!

If you want to receive texts, you either need the International Add-on.  $35 for 7 days.  Or have wi-fi calling enabled and be logged into a wi-fi hotspot when you want to receive a text.

It depends on the country.  Your plan may support Canada and Mexico.

Thank you Kevink for your reply.

Understood the International-Add On which will be an option.

On wifi calling enabled, what does it mean?  If I used the hotel wifi and sign on, I would be able to receive incoming text from the US without subscribing to the International Add On?

I will be traveling to Asia specifically Philippines and Singapore.

Thank you again!

Those countries should work.  It will make it as if your phone is in the states for purposes of making and receiving calls.  Useful if you need the texts for 2FA at times of your choosing, or calls when you are at the hotel.

Note, calls to "local" areas are international long distance so if that is needed get a plan.

With Prepaid, you don't have to worry about accidentally getting a large bill like you would on postpaid if you didn't have IDP.
