Unable to retrieve text messages

Problem: unable to retrieve text messages

AT&T phone Samsung model Rugby SGH-A997
Hardware Version REV0.2
Software Version A997UCMG1
On or about 21 November 2017 became unable to retrieve some text messages, but not all, receiving notice “Retrieving failed” “Decoding failed”
How can I correct the problem?

My particular  problem was caused when several recipients of a MMS msg I sent them selected "Reply All" when they responded.
Confirmed with one person. Sample of size one but I'll accept that as a SWAG solution at this point. Merry Christmas!

@jody-bNot a bad swag, but more likely that the single reply-all sender had a bunch of data in the message ;-]

Check your available storage space on your device, and make sure you're not close to zero.

I think that's Android 4.x on that device, so probably something like Settings->Storage->Info, or thereabouts, it should show you more info.

If you're down to just a few hundred kilobytes, or less, you'll want to see about clearing out some stuff (maybe old, not so great photos and such), or expanding storage with a micro-SD (I think your Rugby will accept one, but check the specs, for capacity too, before buying).

Hi @jody-b,

I am sorry you are unable to receive text messages. I have had this issue myself where I couldn’t receive texts and it’s no fun.  I am glad to provide assistance with this!

Is this issue mostly in one location? When did it start? I am going to suggest our Troubleshoot & Resolve Tool as the first step as this tool can often fix problems of this nature.  Once you open the link, please select your make and model of device, then select messaging under Service/ network issues. Please follow the prompts from there. I hope this helps!

Have a fantastic rest of your day!
