Sending pictures through text data usage ?

I have unlimited talk and text and limited data. I was told if you send a picture through a text that will not add to my data usage whereas sending through an email will... Is this true ?

Thanks,,

Good question! This is definitely true. While sending picture messages requires data, it would count toward your texting instead of data! 🙂 If you send it by e-mail on cellular instead of Wi-Fi, then this WOULD count against your data.

Good to know...  so when not on wifi why use more data ??  Is there a disadvantage when sending it though a text message ?

Cellular data needs to be on to text pictures, videos, etc. via mms message.

For this reason, it's a good idea to keep cell. data on unless really trying to conserve your usage so you don't miss out on these messages or receive them with a delay. If this doesn't answer your second question, could you clarify what you mean?

It depends on what phone brand you are using. If you are using an iPhone and iMessage, that uses data instead of text messaging. If using a messaging app instead of the texting feature also uses data, not texting.
