Black hole - RCS Messages
I had oneplus 6t and working RCS messaging for a while now. In the past week I purchased pixel 5 from att and oneplus 8 pro in attempt to upgrade my device. As I was trying out the devices and switching between them I at some point lost the ability to send chat (RCS) messages and now no matter what device I'm on I get a message CHat features unavailable for this device/your carrier does not currently support this feature.
When I called ATT the rep seemed completely unfamiliar with what RCS was didn't understand the messages app and was under impression that this is pixel specific. Than she referenced a chat feature ATT had couple years ago and said this is an old feature and she put me on hold to investigate. When I corrected her and said this is only a few months old she than went down the road that my phone (a google phone) does not support the feature which, well Google has put all the effort to bring RCS to the carriers and markets...and said that this phone was discontinued for this feature on November 22nd. Its the 20th today!?!. Note this did work initially on the pixel. Finally she escalated it to higher level IT so we will see but I am not optimistic and am hoping somebody more knowledgeable here can help me. I also did speak with google whom said its carrier controlled they did troubleshooting but it did not take.

Hello, @polska2180,
Thank you for reaching out. RCS would be covered by Advanced Messaging on AT&T. That feature is not currently enabled on your two devices. We have no information on when that feature will be available.
Let us know if we can help with anything else. Have a great week.

First let me say that I am not referencing Advanced Messaging from ATT. I am interested in Googles implementation of RCS. https://www.theverge.com/2020/11/19/21574451/android-rcs-encryption-message-end-to-end-beta
I had my OP6T with it working for over 6 months, my friend whom also has ATT and OP 8 Pro and it works as well. When I put his sim card to either of these phones meaning my 8 pro or pixel 5 he gets RCS messages.

Hi @polska2180,
Thank you for reaching out. Let's take a closer look.
Sometimes, this kinds of error with receiving certain types of messaging may be due to a SIM card error. If you are still using your old SIM card, we recommend you visit an AT&T store near you to change the SIM or order one online and activate.
Let us know if that helps.

I have this issue with my Galaxy S20 FE as well. I upgraded from a Galaxy S9 which received RCS messages just fine.
I received a new SIM card with my upgraded phone and did some digging. Looks like it might be related to the new AT&T sim card and is on Google's end.

This is actually a known issue. AT&T phone tech support is useless for this. This is an issue that is beyond the script they read from. Here is a link on Google's web site that addresses the issue. https://support.google.com/messages/thread/82409985?hl=en
According to Google, AT&T knows about the issue and is working on a fix.
