WHAT IS A POTS LINE? DOES MY CURRENT SERVICE USE THAT?

The reference to a "POTS" home phone servicenis something that I have just now become aware of. What is it? When does the phase out effect me? Will it require new equipment? What are the charges for the new home phone service in my area? WHEN WILL ALL OF THIS TAKE PLACE>

POTS=Plain Old Telephone Service copper to the home. Yes, it's being phased out. Do you have it? You'd have to answer that we have no way of knowing what service you have. If your phone is wired to an NID on the side of your house than it's POTS. If your phone plugs into the back of a modem it isn't POTS. No one can tell you when it will end in your area. Some areas are being offered AT&T Phone Advanced, which is a wireless home phone, with optional broadband backup. Others also offer wireless home phone service. If you don't know what a phone company NID is google it, as you can for a description of a POTS line.
