Email issues for BellSouth.net account

I am NOT receiving all my emails for my BellSouth.net account. Senders are getting the error below: [ Sorry, we were unable to deliver your message to the following address. No mx record found for domain=bellsouth.net ] I have already changed my password (in case someone suggests this). Please provide any assistance! Thank You. May 5, 2022

Hang in there JJJ, it's a known issue, see.....

https://forums.att.com/conversations/att-email-and-internet-security/bounce-back/627429aeee9f260c262817a3?commentId=62743d28ee9f260c2628195c

But hey, it's only Thursday and ATT/Yahoo has only broken two things on the email service this week (not counting the 7 month old fiasco with login failures) so there's still time for one or two more!  🙄

Last Thursday, I stopped being able to send or receive any email from my bellsouth.net email account.  I use Outlook mail and initially thought it was a problem with the login (ports, SSL, etc).  Later found out from ATT tech that it was a "Bellsouth.net server issue".  Slowly began receiving email via the Yahoo mail online, but still can't receive email via Outlook. Error msg says:

“Receiving Reported Error 0x800CCC92   Your email server rejected your log-in. Verify your UserName and Password in account properties.

“The server responded: –ERR [SYS/TEMP] server error. Please try again later”, and

"The specified server was found, but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and the SSL information is correct".

Does anyone know how to fix the Outlook settings to begin receiving the bellsouth.net mail again?

Let's get your email working again, StaceyCD

First and foremost we are unable to support the program itself, but we can support the settings of your email account.

According to some information that we have found the error of 0x800CCC92, means that the program is not authenticating to your email address. Since you are able to sign-in to the AT&T webmail, then it is not your account password.

There has been recent changes to AT&T email security so, we are going to start with your account first. What we are going to do is have you create a Secure Mail Key

Here is how you do that:

  1. Go to Profile and choose Sign-in info.
  2. Select the email account that needs a secure mail key. (You’ll find a menu at the top if you have multiple accounts.)
  3. Scroll to Secure mail key and select Manage secure mail key.
  4. Choose the email address that you’d like to use, if you have more than one.
  5. Select Add secure mail key and then enter a nickname for the secure mail key to make it easier to recognize.
  6. Choose Create secure mail key.
  7. Select Copy secure mail key to clipboard. Make a note of your secure mail key, so you have it handy if you need to update an email app on several devices.
    • For security purposes, the secure mail key only displays until you select OK
    • If you lose or forget the secure mail key, you can create new secure mail keys.
  8. Select OK.
  9. Go to your preferred email app and replace the existing password with your secure mail key. For an IMAP account, delete the existing password for both the IMAP and SMTP servers and replace them with your secure mail key.

You can find this steps in our awesome Create a secure mail key support article.

After creating the secure mail key, go to Outlook and delete the account from the program and set it back up again.

Here are the steps:

Set up Outlook 2016 for AT&T Mail

Set up your email for the first time or set it up on a new computer.
  1. Open Outlook, select File, then Add Account.
  2. Choose Manual setup or additional server types.
  3. Select POP or IMAP.
  4. Fill in your user details.
    • Enter your name as you want it to display to others.
    • Enter your full AT&T mail address.
  5. Enter the server information.
    • Account Type - Select IMAP or POP3.
    • Incoming mail server - Enter imap.mail.att.net (IMAP) or inbound.att.net (POP3).
    • Outgoing mail server - Enter smtp.mail.att.net (IMAP) or outbound.att.net (POP3).
  6. Fill out the logon information:
    • User Name - Enter your full email address.
    • Password - Enter or paste your secure mail key.
    • Check Remember password and Require logon using Secure Password Authentication.
  7. Select More Settings.
  8. Complete Outgoing Server info.
    • Check My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.
    • Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  9. Complete Advanced info.
    • Incoming server - Enter 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP3).
    • Use the following type of encrypted connection - Choose SSL.
    • Outgoing server - Enter 465 (IMAP and POP3).
    • Use the following type of encrypted connection - Choose SSL.
  10. Select OK and then Next. Outlook will test your account info. If everything passes, select Finish.
Already have your email set up, but want to update your email account with your secure mail key? It's a simple process.
  1. Select File, then Account Settings.
  2. Choose your AT&T email account and then select Change
  3. Confirm or enter the IMAP or POP settings.
    • Incoming server: imap.mail.att.net (IMAP) or inbound.att.net (POP3)
    • Outgoing mail server: smtp.mail.att.net (IMAP) or outbound.att.net (POP3)
  4. Check or enter your User Name (full AT&T Mail address).
  5. Enter your secure mail key in the password field and select the Remember password checkbox.
  6. Select Next. Outlook will test your account settings.
  7. Select Close, then Finish.

These steps and more can be found in our Set up or update AT&T email for Microsoft Outlook support article.

Please update us and let us know if these steps work for you. If the error persists after setting the account back up again, then you will need to contact Microsoft for assistance.

Thank you for posting on the AT&T Community Forums.

Dear Matthew,

Did EVERYTHING just as instructed and still NO LUCK!

Although a connection was immediately established and the program was able to immediately find the incoming connection, it stalled out on the outgoing mail server and the Test e-mail FAILED.

I soon got the following ERROR messages:

-Send test email msg failed. The specified server was found but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port & SSL info is correct [It is exactly what you provided for me]

-Log into incoming mail server (POP3) Outlook could not connect to the incoming POP3 mail server because server did not accept your user name & password

-Find outgoing mail server (SMTP) Outlook could not connect to outgoing mail server (SMTP). The problem could be the server name or port, or your server may not support SSL

RECHECKED and everything is EXACTLY the way you directed.

I am using Outlook 2003, but have NEVER had a problem with it and it still contains all of the parameters you laid out to be filled in

Thanks, for the update, StaceyCD

In looking at the information, Outlook 2003 is a non-supported email client. We do not have that on our list. We did at one time, but it is no longer supported.

The current email clients that are supported are: Outlook 2016, 2013, 2010,2007.

Our recommendation is that you need to speak to Microsoft in order to get this error corrected. It might have to do with the PST. or account file on your computer and they will have to correct that.

If there is anything else that we can do for you, please reach back out.

Thank you for using the AT&T Community Forums.

Took the problem to an expert IT tech and he just reset the ATT "secure mail key" on the ATT website and BINGO, EVERYTHING started moving again and being downloaded to my 2003 Outlook.  Despite ALL of the MISINFORMATION given out by the ATT techs regarding a "server fire", "problems with the Microsoft software", etc.  This problem was absolutely a premeditated event by ATT.  ATT sold both Yahoo and AOL to Verizon a while back (same issues were experienced at that time), and now they were once again sold by Verizon to another company.  I am not saying that the ATT tech employees are PURPOSELY giving out misinformation.  They are just repeating the lies given to them by those higher up the "food chain".

Locked out of my bellsouth.net account. Can't reset the password because my security questions keeps telling me that they are incorrect, can't advance to other questions for verification.
