Connection Encryption Type Error
Receiving this error for over a week now. It's on and off. Email works fine then doesn't with this error.
Task 'xxxxxxxxxx - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC1A) : 'Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.'
Email is setup properly and has worked this way for years until someone decides to make some changes on the mail server.

Yes it's Outlook and the pc has been rebooted numerous times in the week this has been happening.
The problem isn't on my end. It's a change someone has made on the server that causes this. Just like all the other changes that caused all the other numerous errors with Outlook. Funny how they all mysteriously appear and disappear without ever making any changes on my end.

As I stated earlier this issue is due to a change someone made on the server. Any problem I've had with AT&T email is always due to this.
Works fine, someone makes a change, error messages appear, someone corrects the change, error messages go away.
It has been like this for over 10 years.

Are you going to keep insisting it's a server change and not even make the effort to trouble shoot? I read a lot of posts, particularly ones about email, and I don't recall anyone other than you mentioning the 0x800CCC1A error in recent weeks (although admittedly I'm getting older and my memory isn't what it used to be).
When was the last time you checked your hard drive (or ssd)? Did you go back to re-verify your Outlook settings are still correct. Data can get corrupted over time in various and subtle ways and while it might not be your Outlook settings, it could be somewhere else in your OS's data (cache data, data files, etc.). Things are not cast in concrete.
Did you even bother to look at some of the hits in that google search I suggested? One I found interesting was this one. That one mentions a "0x800CCC1A Repair Tool"! Apparently Outlook is a big enough flake that someone needed to write a repair tool for that problem error. Outlook too has it's own data files that could get corrupted (besides settings) which I'm guessing that's what that tool attempts to fix.
Unless there's a flood of 0x800CCC1A error reports in addition to your one indicating that there indeed something fishy with the servers your are not going to get your email problem fixed. You have to do the trouble shooting.
Update:
Full disclosure - I use Thunderbird as my email client and it has no problems with the servers.

I respectfully have to agree with meglhaden. Mine started doing the same thing at about the same time on two ATT/Yahoo accounts using Outlook 2010. It's always in the past cleared somehow by itself. I haven't had time to look for anyone else having the same problem until this morning and found this post. I get rejected about 2 times out of six tries.
Been going on for years but usually with a password issue and different error code. Many of us oldtimers are on board with meglhaden's theory.
Thanks for any input and/or help.respectfully. Crossing fingers...

Thanks John_E for understanding what I was talking about.
It stopped on my accounts without making any changes.
Hopefully yours cleared as well.

I'm having trouble too - worked fine yesterday, today not so much! I'll guess I'll wait it out and see what happens..

Task - Receiving' reported error (0x800CCC1A) : 'Your server does not support the connection encryption type you have specified. Try changing the encryption method. Contact your mail server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP) for additional assistance.'
I tried changing the encryption to TSL and Auto and neither works.
I used two tool Stellar Phoenix Outlook PST Repair and Kernel for Outlook PST Repair - Evaluation Version. I have tried creating a new folder and none of these worked. I tried reentering the email password and that works once in a while then the error comes back again. I am using the WiFi in the facilities so I am limited as to what I can do with that. I tried resetting the network this didn't work. I rollback the upgrade and this didn't work. I reinstalled an image and that didn't work. I am apprehensive in trying other repair tools that charge but there is no guarantee that they will work ending up nickel and diming me to death. i have researched this error and tried just about everything.
Can you help?
