Wireless Access point

I have u-Uverse tv and I’m trying to find out if there’s a way to have a battery backup for the wireless access line? I need my WiFi to be on a battery backup to alert us if our basement backup sump pump, which has a WiFi system on it, goes down from a power outage. My router plugs into a battery backup surge protector but the wireless access modem seems to be hard wired in the electrical system of the house, and stops working if the house looses power. Any ideas on how I can come up with a work around?  Thanks.

I forgot to mention , yes I have fiber.

OOOOOKKKKAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!

Yes, you probably also have an ONT.  It would be another box to which the Gateway is connected via an Ethernet cable.  It will probably be on the inside of an outside wall of your house, most likely near the NID (the box on the outside of your house where your telephone wire would have come in one day long ago).

When the ONT looses power, you'll lose Internet.

The WAP doesn't matter for Internet.  It just happens to also lose power when the ONT loses power, when the power goes off.

Your post is unclear to me, but, I have every piece of att equipment on a UPS.  Gateway, WAP, settop boxes.  UPS is useful to manage power to any sensitive electronic hardware you have.

The dedicated Wireless Access point for TV is only used for the TV Receivers.  Wireless Internet Access is otherwise provided by the Gateway itself.  If the Gateway is on a UPS, then your need is covered.

Here to help, @Markb10!

What @gr8sho and @JefferMC said is the correct information. As long as the gateway itself is on a bask up supply, you will be good.

No, that’s not the case. When the router is plugged into the UPS battery backup, and there the unit is unplugged from the wall, the router is still working and we have WiFi. The WAP is still functioning because apparently it is hard wired to a power source. If power is cut to the house, both the router and the WAP are dead and we have no WiFi. I need the WAP to be battery backed up, but I don’t know how to do that. Help!

Can you explain the difference between Unplugging the UPS that the Gateway is plugged into and turning off the house power?  Why would the Gateway continue to operate for one and not the other.  That doesn't make sense.

The U-verse TV WAP is only for TV.  Only for TV.  TV is it's only use.  You don't use it for anything else.  It doesn't supply power to the Gateway.  It doesn't take power from the Gateway.  It has to be plugged in somewhere (follow its power cord if you need to find out where).  You can unplug it and still your Wi-Fi will work.

Hello, @Markb10

If you are wanting to continue to have power when the power goes out then we recommend getting a back up battery for your ONT

The power supply for your ONT should be located inside of your home.

There should be a battery inside of the ONT power supply box if there is not one then you may order one. If there is a battery present but it is dead then you may order a replacement.

Let us know if you have any questions.

My battery backup/UPS is plugged into the wall outlet. When I unplug the UPS the battery supplies power to the router obviously and it still runs until the battery backup dies. When I throw the circuit breaker and the house loses power, the router stays up because of the battery backup, but the WAP is dead and I don’t have WiFi. I can’t follow the line on the WAP because it goes into the wall and I can’t follow it. When the router and WAP have power I have WiFi, but if the WAP doesn’t have power I have no internet or WiFi. Hope that explains my problem.
To get the use of the WiFi unit on my basement backup sump pump alerts I need WiFi for a minute or so when I lose power. Thanks.

ATT HELP,

My WAP unit doesn’t seem to have a place for a battery. It doesn’t look like any of the units in the link in your last comment. Mine is black, about 6”x 4” x1” and says VEN501 on the side. There are two screws on the bottom but it doesn’t seem like a place for a battery?
