Clarification on router behind router set-up (SomeJoe7777 Post #13)

I followed SomeJoe7777 instructions for setting up router behind 3800 RG (post #13).  Everything is working great but I'm curious about one minor detail.  The instructions read:

Change the LAN IP address of the Netgear router to a static IP on the same subnet as the 2Wire RG router.  For example, if the 2Wire RG router is using 192.168.1.x, and the DHCP range is 192.168.1.64 -192.168.1.253, set Netgear router to 192.168.1.10

My question is the netgear admin page is 192.168.1.1; why did the instructions say to set it to 192.168.1.10 rather than to 192.168.1.1

I now use 192.168.1.10 to adminster the netgear router rather than 192.168.1.1

Just curious.

I picked 10 because it is unlikely to be used as the default address by any piece of equipment. .1 is frequently used by some devices out of the box (like your Netgear), and in case someone reading that post already had a device like that on their network, I didn't want there to be an IP address conflict. However, you can use any address not in the RG's DHCP range, including .1, if nothing else is using it.
